    • Accomodation - Longer stay in Yogyakarta

      Yogyakarta May 8, 2013 at 7:46 AM

      Hi

We are a couple who are going to Yogyakarta to study for a semester, from September to February this year. Do any of you have any recommendations regarding places to live? Price isn't really a big issue, as Indonesia is cheap in comparison to our home country. We were looking at this place tigalima.wordpress.com/room-... (the Room Deluxe), but they were full.

Would be nice if it wasn't too far from UGM :)

      Thanks in advance!

Can I wing it in Yogyakarta?

      Yogyakarta Dec 14, 2012 at 4:03 AM

Hi all, I've been reading some of the forum posts and they've been helpful. Just some questions from me : Should I make tour bookings to visit all the wonderful historical sites in Yogyakarta e.g Borobudur & Prambanan prior to arrival or can I easily get those tours arranged when I'm in Yogyakarta? Is it a good idea to hire a driver and car, or is public transport sufficient? I read lots of good things about Hotel Phoenix, is that a good location. It seems to be away from Jalan Malioboro where the shopping and nightlife are. I'd like to keep my options open and decide my itinerary day by day. I'm traveling on a budget so hope that helps to answer my questions. Thanks :)

      from Bali to Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta Special Region Apr 11, 2012 at 1:35 PM

We are a group of three, in June we'll visit Bali. During the last week we would like to go from Bali by ferry to Java and then to Yogyakarta to visit its wonderful temples. Is it tough by car? How long can it take? How are the road conditions in that area? Better to use public transport or a private car with a local driver? How much it costs more or less?

Hi! I am considering joining the Interhash 2012 which will be held in Borobudur. The website for it says 24-27 May is outside the tourism high season. I wonder why late May is outside the tourist high season and what the weather will be like in Jogyakarta/Borobudur/Prambanan then? E.g. will it be dry and slightly cooler or hot and rainy? Thanking you in advance for your responses.

    • Solo to Jogja by taxi

      Yogyakarta Oct 31, 2011 at 11:09 PM

Hi Am planning to visit Jogja soon, and I am considering coming in via Solo airport (Silkair flight from Changi airport). Is it easy to get transport from Solo to Jogja (and back a few days later to catch the return flight)? And if so how much would the cost be? The reason for this is that from Singapore to Jogja I have 2 options - Garuda via Jakarta or Air Asia direct. But Air Asia departure from Jogja is at 7.25 am and I'd rather not have such an early flight if I can help it. Thanks.

    • Mountain-seeing

Yogyakarta Special Region Jul 7, 2011 at 11:35 AM

We're a group of 8 booked our flights to Yogyakarta come September. We're keen on visiting Mt.Bromo's crater. I've worked out an itinerary Yogyakarta-Solo-Bromo within 4 days! Also on our wish-list is to visit Mt.Ijen's crater and at least be able to enjoy 'seeing' the other mountains, especially the site of Merapi. We reckon driving to Bromo would be 10-14hrs from Yogyakarta. Can somebody please tell me if there is a better alternative? Mt. Bromo is the highlight of our tour, so we can't opt that out but in 3 days, are we crazy? And a bit of shopping plus city-site-seeing would also cheer the group members. Thanks !

Hi All! I am planning to visit Yogyakarta by 27th of June. However, I don't know where should i start from and where should i pay a visit to. I'm a budget backpacker and travelling alone. I would like to go to certain places such as Borobudur, Prambanan, Ijo temple and mount merapi. Is it necessary to have a local guide there or i can go anywhere on my own by taking public transport? And i heard that it's not suitable to climb mt merapi at his period of time. I would like to try mount climbing( I've never done this before and really want to experience it). Any places to recommend? Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
