Tour package Borobudur - Prambanan - Yogja tour

by phuongnguyen1611 Online Now Dec 6, 2010 at 4:21 AM

Hi, my husband and I already booked return tickets with Airasia: from Jakarta reach Jogja at 7am 31 jan 2010, from Jogja back to Jakarta at 14:10pm 01 feb 2011. We plan to book a tour to Borobudur - Prambanan for 02D/1N and we've email some tour agents and receive a feedback as below:

day 1: arrival at Yogyakarta airport transfer to visit Prambanan and transfer to Manohara Resort
day 2: Borobudur Sunrise tour and Yogyakarta city tour and transfer to Airport for flight back to Jakarta

Tour Including:
1. Hotel room at Manohara
2. Admission fees
3. Tour guide
4. Transport

Not including:
1. Tipping for tour guide and driver
2 Dinner and Lunch
3. Air Tickets

Total price is US 280 for 2 person

How do you think about the price of the tour package? Is it too expensive or reasonable? Hope somebody can help us.

Many thanks :)

    Hi,
You could certainly do it cheaper if you arranged your tour locally, but for a booking from abroad it is about what you may expect.
Here is a budget in local prices:
    Car with driver 2 days: 2 x Rp 500.000 = Rp 1,000.000
(I count a Toyota Kijang Innova, smaller car can be Rp 400,000)
    Guide 2 days 2 x Rp 100.000 = Rp 200,000
(Driver may double as guide, but as he must speak English I count him separately).
Room at Manohara Rp 675,000 (includes entrance fee Borobudur)
    Admission Prambanan 2 x Rp 15,000 = Rp 30,000
    Admission Kraton 2 x Rp 12,500 = Rp 25,000
Other admissions during Yogya tour: Rp 30,000 depends on where you go.
TOTAL: Rp 1,960.000 or USD 218.
So there is about 25% 'foreigner charge' in the offer you got.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

I'm wondering if we can book a 02D/01N tour as above at Jogja airport? Because we wish to stay in Manohara hotel for 01 night so we're afraid that if it's only until then that we book then the hotel might not have any available room for us.

Also, is there any other way better than booking a tour to visit Prambanan, Borobudur, Jogja city? If we book a driver and a car and stay in Manohara hotel for 01 night, do we have to pay accommodation for the driver as well?

    Many thanks :)

Also, I've heard that we cannot buy admission tickets to borobudur sunrise, prambanan, etc if we go by ourselves instead of in a tour group. Is it true? Otherwise we can book manohara hotel on our own, then book a driver and a car for 02 days and pay for admission fees and meals by ourselves. Do you think it's feasible? Hope somebody can help us. THanks :)

I do not know whether there are tour agents at the airport, but there are booths where you can rent a car, outside the arrival hall. And transport is all you need, the rest you can do yourself.

The Heritage Sites of Borobudur and Prambanan are open to the public from 6AM. That is too late for sunrise, only from Manohara you can ascend Borobudur at 4:30AM to see the sunrise. But I think the sunrise is overrated, especially in the rainy season (including January) when the sun may well rise behind clouds. Some have called the Borobudur sunrise a 'tourist trap'. But is advisable to come as early as you can, especially to Borobudur, to avoid the crowds and the heat of day.

Also Manohara is too expensive for what they offer. Being the only hotel in the Borobudur grounds, they use this as selling point. There are other hotels in the vicinity. I do not know them, but you can consult this Wikitravel page: http://wikitravel.org/en/Borobudur, bring a copy of the page with you.

So you can rent a car from the airport, preferably for two days, because it is difficult to find a rental car at Borobudur. It is up to them whether the driver will stay over at Borobudur. The cost may be included in the price, if they count it separately a driver's room should cost no more than Rp 100,000. And do not pay before the driver has come for the second day!
The entrance fee of both sites is something like USD 15 (I don't know the latest), payable on the spot. You are free whether or not you hire a guide at the site, their fee should be Rp 50,000.

Personally I prefer the Prambanan site over Borobudur: more varied and interesting and less crowded. Browse my Prambanan page: "Prambanan: temples and more temples" - Prambanan by theo1006
As you have the car and may finish the Prambanan site by noon, you could consider doing Borobudur on the same day and stay the night in Yogya (the risk: past noon it may well rain at Borobudur and if the sun is shining it will be hot). That gives you more time for Yogya town and you need the car only one day. But this depends on how much time you want to spend there. In my experience two hours for Borobudur is enough unless you want to walk around all the terraces. In Prambanan one easily spends more time within the site and for the temples in the neighbourhood. I am aware that Borobudur is considered a 'must see', but you might also skip it in order to do Prambanan and Yoyga more leasurely.

Hello there, you mentioned that with Airasia: from Jakarta reach Jogja at 7am 31 jan 2010.
The best and cheap way as you arrive you could arrange PRAMBANAN TOUR by yourself in a very easy way: Just take a Trans Yogya Bus ( cost three thousand rupiah/passenger, Rp 3,500), the halte just walking distance from jogja Adisucipto Airport Arrival (the tourist information board would show you the way to the bus Halt), its would take about 20 minutes, the bus stop at Prambanan bus terminal, as you out of the bus, you could see Prambanan temple in a very close distance crossing the street, it just ten minutes walking distance to get to Prambanan entrance gate or it would be great experience if you take a horse cart just in front bus halt and cost about 15,000 rupiah per cart.
Prambanan entrance ticket now including a free shuttle bus to Ratu Boko Temple which located at the hill side about 10 km from Prambanan, so if you interested a trip (one hour tour & trip) to Ratu Boko temple, I strongly recommend you to take it as first chance, then shuttle bus will turn back to a spacious and a little far walking distance Prambanan tour and trip (about two hours)including 3 other temples nearby.
Then you should return back by Trans Yogya Bus to Jogja Adisucipto Airport in Arrival waiting rooms and contact one of Jogja Rent a Car which would pick you at the airport and deliver you to Manohara at Borobudur and pick you up from Manohara in the next day and escort you to get your flight from Jogja back to Jakarta which scheduled at 14:10pm 01 feb 2011.
I give you one reliable RENT CAR with conditon as stated below and would be better if you contact in advance, but if you are not agree and already have another contact number/travel agent, just denie my recommendation:
    CAR ONLY: AVANZA / XENIA = 200rb / 12 hours, 250rb / 24 hours, INNOVA = 300rb / 12 hours. 350 rb / 24 hours, JAZZ / GRAND LIVINA = 250rb / 12 hours, 300rb / 24 hours,...DRIVER: DALAM KOTA (INNER CITY) = 75rb / 12 hours, LUAR KOTA (out of the city) = 150rb / 24 hours.
READY TO PICK UP & DELIVERY SERVICE...!!!
please contact "Tria Sancoko" at Face Book : facebook.com/home.php?#!/pro...
It would be better if I could know where are you come from, and your country origin... btw, Have a nice trip to Yogyakarta....Gani Bogor, Indonesia

Thanks a lot for all your helpful information. We just came back from Jogja and had a wonderful and meaningful time there. We visited quite a number of temples including Borobudur as well. However, we didnt go for the Borobudur sunrise tour coz it's not worth the money anyway (it was quite cloudy during this time of the year).
We really love our trip to Indonesia. Everything turns out to be great with a tour company called Yogja Tour. The driver was very experienced, and the service was very timely and efficient.
Really hope to come back there again in the future :D

So in your last post you said you enjoyed the trip and had an excellent driver. Would you be able to share his contact? We are also visiting Jogja end of this month. Both of us with 3 children (3yr, 6yr, 9yr). Don't think we can do 4:30am sunrise tour... perhaps just sun-watch from our balcony... but seriously, would you think it is ok for us (with kids) to visit Borobudur, Prambanan, Merapi etc?
    Thanks!
