Hello ! I am travelling to the Xinjiang province at the end of june. I am french and i'd like to know if anyone is travelling to that province at the same time so we could possibly team up :) thanks !

Hi all :) Do You know, whether due to weather conditions Khunjirap Pass is open? Is it after 1st of May, or now already. Do You know, whether with the Pakistan visa could I cross this pass? /I'm Polish citizen..so..european union/. What could be the fastest time to get visa in Pakistan Consulate in Chengdu, /with the possible letter of invitation from my friend from Lahore/? Does anyone has any experience? Hi..does anybody knows any info about getting visa to Tajikistan in Urumqi? Does this consulate still exists? :) What is the fastest way to get this visa/my friend in Dushanbe could send me the invitation letter-would it help? I know, there is a border cross straight from China to Tajikistan. Is it only for local people, or can I use it?/I want to pass after 29th of April/. Does anybody knows, about the possibility to draw the money from ATM in Dushanbe, or should I change money in Malaysia and take there USD? Thanks in advance..:)

Hi, I am travaling to Thailand through China. I have long waits for my connecting flights: in Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)on the way to Thailand and in Urumqi (URC) on the way back. I am a US citizen. Are there hotels within the airports where I can spend the night, so that I don't need to get a Chinese visa? Thank you.

I am planning to be in Kashgar mid December, I guess it will be very cold. How do I get to Lake Karakul and Taklimakan Desert? Is hiring a taxi possible or we have to go with a tour guide? Is Taklimakan Desert worth to see and is this goin to take a whole day tour? We do not want to trek..but riding camel is fine.. Thanks

I am looking to travel to Urumqi to meet a friend (Chinese citizen). My China visa is in the process of being worked on. I am US citizen. The visa company said there may be a problem with going to Urumqi. Does anyone know of any issues currently that prohibit foreigners from traveling to Urumqi?

Hi, can someone please look over this itinerary for me? Shen Zhen --> Urumqi Urumqi--> Kashgar Kashgar--> Urumqi Urumqi--> Turpan Turpan--> Dunhuang Dunhuang --> Jiayu Guan Jiayu Guan--> lanzhou lanzhou --> xia he xia he --> tianshui tianshui --> xian I am planning on leaving around 11/12. THe other alternative that I am considering is flying into Lanzhou from Shenzhen, then work my way up to Kashgar by train and take a flight from Kashgar to Xian at the end. My question is will it make a difference if I get to Kashgar in later Nov. instead of mid Nov. Which route do you think is better? Also how is the scenery around that time of the year? Hi, I am planning to visit Xinjiang in Sept/Oct 2010. I intend to visit Lake Karakul and Lake Hanas during the trip. I read that tourist need permit to visit Lake Karakul effective July 2008. Can someone confirm whether it is true? If so, where to get the permit and how much is it cost? I also wish to do some trekking around Lake Hanas.Is it possible to do the trek without a guide from Hemu?Or if advisible to do the trek with the guide, how much will be the cost? Hi all Does anyone know the latest news or any news on traveling from Kashgar down to Ali In Tibet and then onto Lhasa. If not this route maybe from Golmud. Is it plausible to get down into tibet from Xinjiang as a solo traveler using public transport at the present time or not or shall I just stick to my other plans for now traveling around india. Any help would be great as im getting conflicting results at the moment

I know internet is blocked in Xinjiang right now, but can anyone who's been there recently comment on the safety situation? there are now reports of syringe attacks beyond Urumqi, in Hotan, Kashgar and Altay - in other words, all over the region. Travel agents have also reported that the desert villages in the southern Taklamakan are off-limits, and that permit fees for the desert ruins along the southern silk road (e.g. Niya, Miran) are astronomical. Maybe something to do with the upcoming 60th anniversary. all in, a poor prospect for a solo traveller who looks Han...
