Xiamen train to Shanghai and backpacking hostel

I would appreciate if someone could provide me with information on train from xiamen to shanghai (cost and travelling time and schedule) and also any cheap accommodation, hostel for backpacker.

    Actually, the train travel time for Xiamen -- Shanghai has been reduced drastically with the new D trains. Xiamen -- Shanghai South: D3204 (1110--1905) 7h55min D3202 (1450--2241) 7h51min Fare is 358/429 RMB for 2nd/1st-class seats. For hostels, if you Google for "Shanghai hostel" you'll turn up a lot of results. Hiker IYH and Etour IYH are the most centrally located; stay clear of Captain's Hostel.
