I am planning to visit Poland during the UEFA Euro 2012 and Warsaw seems to be a must-see (and also a necessity due to flight connections), but I wonder, which second host city I should visit... I did some online research and Gdansk as well as Wroclaw are offering a lot. Which of these cities you'd recommend? I've to add, that I am also intrested in "classical" sights (like buildings and monuments) and in history... Additionally party matters, but I suppose, that during the EURO there won't be huge differences between the host cities...
Hello, I have been to quite a few cities in Poland, including Warsaw, Wroclaw and Gdansk and I must say that Gdansk is probably one of my favourite cities in Poland Not only because of its location at the Baltic sea, but also because of its wide range of sights from things relating to the Solidarnosc movement (Gdansk Shipyard) to things relating to the beginning of WWII (Westerplatte). Also Gdansk is a perfect place for some side trips to e.g. Sopot, Gdynia, the Hel Peninsula or Malbork. All this can be done by public transport. If you are interested, please have a look at my VT pages about these cities. If you have any specific questions feel free to contact me. I hope this helps, HORSCHECK

Hi! Both are beautiful cities Gdansk and Wroclaw. Wroclaw is a city on islands, there are more then 100 bridges!!! You can do trips to Ksiaz castle, Karkonosze mountains etc. So I recomend Wroclaw:)

hallo schmechi I'm Polish myself and if you asked me I'd personally prefer to go to Wroclaw... Beautiful city, architecture etc. But from your point of view it's hard to say... Gdansk = seaside, beaches and so on. You're from Austria, right? If You wanna enjoy the sea Gdansk would be a better choice... more over... there is a better railway connection between Warsaw and Gdansk, than Warsaw and Wroclaw, which is horrible... You can get to Warsaw from Vienna easly with a train or plane [Austrian, LOT, Lufthansa]. I personally dont like Gdansk, it's dirty and dilapidated, but if you won't mind it, You'll have a good fun there. If any questions pls mail me adrian920626@wp.pl gruss

I was born in Gdansk and lived there 25 years so I may be biased :) but definitely Gdańsk! Not only it is wonderful city but it forms metropolitan area known as 3city with Sopot - wonderful Spa town and Gdynia - sailing port. There is really plenty to do and see in all those three and commuting is easy and fast. I have more on those on AwesomeTravelTips blog - check out Poland posts.
