Hello, I was interested in visiting Wroclaw (formerly Breslau) to find information about my mother who was born and raised there during pre-WW2. I also wanted to know if anyone could give places to see or historical sites that pre-date the war. Thanks.
BEFORE visiting there try doing some preliminary research by writing to the proper authority for information. Good place to start is: http://www.wroclaw.pl/ms/english where you can find links to city's authorities where you can try : Divisions and departments of the Municipal Office (http://www.wroclaw.pl/m6902) on the left-side pane. At the botom of it there is the Registry Office which is actually the civil records office (USC: Urząd Stanu Cywilnego). The direct link is in Polish only: http://www.wroclaw.pl/m3493/ Another one is the state archive office: http://www.ap.wroc.pl although in Polish only, on this site of state archive on Wroclaw you can find their phone numbers snail-mail address and e-mail address by clicking on "adresi i telefony" on right side menu.
