Whilst you may find some places/sellers accept euro it is really not a good idea to use anything other then the legal currency, anywhere. The euro is not a pan-European currency. If you find somewhere which accepts euro you can guarantee that the exchange rate you get is to your detriment, not least because the seller must cover his/her exchange costs. Either use an ATM when you arrive in Croatia to withdraw kuna or use the exchange office at either airport (there are always slightly lower rates at airport exchange offices than elsewhere, so only change a little). I wouldn't bother changing money into kuna in Australia.

G"day Annette. in Dubrovnik you ll find small exchange offices ,so you can change your money there ,regards of its Euros or Aussie. as well you can use your bank card at Zagrebacka Banka atm machine. The rate change daily(its goes up always) so no point in changing the money in Oz. enjoy your trip in Dubrovnik. Happy Christmas to you and your family tnx lots C H E E R S ( - _ - )

Hi I had visit croatia in 2009 with no Kuna cause kuna not in exchange list from my homeland in Thailand so I do some exchange at the airport. And found that a post office was a best rate for exchange money than Bank and private money exchange.

They may accept Euros in restaurants and hotels, but probably with lower rates. You don't need to exchange your money in Australia. You can find many exchange offices in the city. Avoid exchanging money in the airport, lower rates as usual.

Definitely don't change your money before leaving Australia. ATMs are the best way to go. You'll need to get some Croatian money before you leave the airport to pay for the bus into town (35 kuna) - and do take the bus, not a taxi. Buses are timetabled to connect with flight arrivals, it takes about 30 minutes and stops at the Pile Gate (the main entry to the old city) before going on to terminate at the bus station in the port area another 15 minutes or so further on. Depeneding on whhere your hotel is, you can catch buses to all parts of the outer city from stops near the Pile Gate. If you're staying inside the walls, you'll have to walk from there.

Depending on your flight arrival time, there is a bank in the terminal you can use to change money if you don't want to use an ATM.
