hello jim!as you are arriving in detroit metro, after you pick up your rental car i assume, follow the interstate signs to I94 east, you will follow this highway into detroit, watch for street sins or exits along the route and when you see a sign CANADA TAKE THIS RAMP WHICH WILL LEAD YOU ONTO I96, FOLLOW THIS INTERSTATE UNTIL YOU SEE A SIGN INDICATING BRIDGE TO CANADA,NOTE WE ALSO HAVE A TUNNEL CROSSING FROM DETROIT TO WINDSOR BUT THIS I BELIEVE WOULD BE TO HARD FOR A STRANGER TO NAVIGATE THUS THE BRIDGE TO CANADA IS MUCH SIMPLER the entire distance from the detroit airport to windsor is around 45km.and takes about 45minutes to reach windsor downtown.the falls from windsor is about a 4.5 hr drive down the 401 highway to the 403 highway into the falls.detroit can be a dangerous city but their interstates are well patrolled and you will not experience any problems i am sure just stay on the interstate to the above directions and exit as above you will see it is ok.detroit subarbs are like any city safe and clean while downtown detroit is also cleaning up its image that is downtown detroit direct, not the neighbour hoods around dtown, stay clear of them for sure.you will pass greenfield village coming from the airport watch for signs along i94,it is perfectly safe to visit this as it is in dearborn michigan and very safe DO NOT MISS HENRY FORD VILLAGE WORT AT LEAST 2 DAYS TO SEE THE ENTIRE VILLAGE,I WOULD STAY IN A HOTEL NEAR THE VILLAGE AS REALLY YOU NEED 2 DAYS TO SEE THE ENTIRE MUSEAM,AL;SO RIVERBOAT CRUISES ARE NICE AND AVAILABLE IN WINDSOR AND DETROIT ABOUT 2.5 HRS IN LENGTH.BASEBALL IS ALSO IN FULL SWING THE DETROIT TIGERS ARE BASED IN COMERICA PARK ON WOODWARD AVE,AND IS SAFE ALSO TO ATTEND WINDSOR HAS A LARGE CASINO IF YOU ARE INTO THIS AND YOU CAN TOUR HIRAM WALKERS DISTILLERY ON RIVERSIDE DR THIS IS A FREEBIE WITH SET HRS SO CHECK WITH THE RAMADA AS TO CONTACTS HAVE A HAPPY TRIP AND I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU SOME INSIGHT AS TO WINDSOR AND DETROIT.
