      Hi,

I would like to rent a normal car (not a 4x4) to travel through Morocco. Does anyone know if it's allowed to drive up till M'semrir in the Dadès valley with this car? And up till Merzouga?

      Thanks a lot!

Fez to Marrakesh or Marrakesh to Marrakesh

      Morocco Apr 23, 2013 at 6:44 AM

      Hi,

My friend and me are thinking of a 3 days / 2 night trip (including dessert safari). We are thinking of either fez to marrakseh or marrakesh to marakesh. Would appreciate suggestion or advise on which is more worthwhile to pursue?

Separately, whatis the immigration (visa on arrival) process like for morocco? Is it anything like in Cairo (I personally ffound the immigration process in Cairo a bit chaotic with some agents seem to have "express" lane)?
      Thanks heaps before hand.

What should we expect to pay for a 3 or 4 day basic tour (including a camel trek and an overnight stay in the desert) from Fez to Marrakesh for 2 people? Can you share any recommended tour companies or contacts?

    • help with planning a trip to morocco

      Morocco May 11, 2013 at 2:10 PM

Hey! we are a family of 7 age 17-55 travelling to Morocco October. we have 9 days, landing and departing from Casablanca and our limitation is that on the nights of day 3,4,5,6 we have to sleep in Marrakesh since one of us is attending a conference there (the rest are free to do one-day tours from day 4 and on)

we are looking for a cool and adventurous trip with nature, history an culture.

This is an offer we got from a travel guide -- i would love to hear recommendations and comments from people who have been to Morocco recently about this plan..

      thank you!!! / Uri

      ===================

      the plan:

Day 1 Arrive in Casablanca airport drive straight to Rabat for brief visit of the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohamed V and then on to Fez for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 A full day today to visit the oldest Imperial city in Morocco with the oldest university in the world. Our day begins in the old Medina with Fez El Bali - old Fez - the
Andalusian and the Karaouine quarter with its dyers and tanners and artisans working in the style of their forefathers.
As the day progresses we take in the Mellah - the Jewish quarter, with its old cemetery and the Royal Palace. A fascinating day finishing back in the hotel for overnight and the possibility to eat dinner out..

Day 3 Drive South to Marrakech via Beni Mellal. A scenic route taking us through some of the prettiest scenery of the Middle Atlas. Check in to our Marrakech hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Morning tour of Marrakech taking in the historical sites and then afternoon free maybe to visit the Souks and the fabulous Djemma El Fna Square with its’ fortune tellers, dancers, snake charmers and water sellers. This square really is the heart of Marrakech. You will have time to wander around or just sit in one of the roof top cafes surrounding the square. Sit and enjoy this incredible picture postcard – a living theatre with the Atlas mountains as a backdrop before returning to our hotel for overnight. Or maybe take a Caleche (Horse drawn carriage) and visit the Majorelles Gardens made famous by Yves St. Laurent. Dinner can be taken outside.

Day 5 An early start today for Essaouuira, once known as Mogador. The "Purple Islands" off the coast were used by the Romans for the dying of their togas and we explore the old Medina little changed since its Portuguese occupants left; Back to Marrakech for overnight stay. Dinner again can be taken outside.

Day 6 Free day today or maybe a High Atlas adventure with jeeps and mules and some of the most spectacular scenery in Morocco with views over Mount Toubkal. Back to Marrakech and overnight with dinner outside.

Day 7 and 8 Leave for the South via Ouarzazate with its Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah made famous in many Hollywood films finally ending the day in Zagora and ultimately th Sahara Desert. Overnight with dinner in tents. Breakfast early the next morning to see the sunrise over the dunes and then set off for the return to Marrakech where we take dinner and overnight.

Day 9 Depending on the flight time leave for Casablanca airport

Train reservation from Fes to Marrakech

Wilaya de Fes Jul 13, 2004 at 12:11 AM

Hello, I am going to be in Morocco for a short trip of six days in early August. Since I am short on time, I would like to make a night journey from Fes to Marrakech by train. Yet, since in August there will be many travelers, it is advised (from lonely planet and virtual tourist) to make reservations especially for a sleeping bed on the train. Does any one know the phone number of the train company or any way to make reservations. I checked the oncf.org.ma and it does not have any way of making reservation. Any answer or lead is greatly appreciated. Tousand of thanks. Qattous.

The CTM coach/train appears to have an arrival in Fes at 2am. Are there different CTM/Supratours connections to arrive in Fes at a more reasonable time.? If not, what other links are there from Nador to Fes?
