Travelling to Jemaja with a baby

      Indonesia Mar 2, 2015 at 7:34 PM

I'm planning to meet my parents in Pulua Jemaja, Letong Kampong on or around the 25th March for about 5/6 days. I'm based in Singapore.

The problem is that I'm travelling with my 10 month old baby. Although she is a good traveller, I don't fancy my chances at keeping her happy and content for what seems would be a whole day of travelling on VERY long ferry trips.

So very simply I would like to know if there is a quicker (doesn't matter if it's more expensive) way to get there. I did wonder about driving up to Mersing and getting a ferry from there, or even flying up to Kuantan and getting a ferry from there but I don't know how regular (or if at all) ferries go from either of these places.

If anyone has any tips I'd love to hear them!

      Thanks,
      Rachel

    • Yogyakarta-Bromo-Ijen-Bali trip

      Indonesia Mar 5, 2015 at 10:44 AM

Hi! I am travelling to yogyakarta in the end of march with my family and we are trying to plan the whole jogja-bromo-ijen-bali trip. There are 7 of us, so I am guessing it is better to travel by road rather than train. I am not sure if flight is a better option as compared to the long road journey between jogja and bromo. Any suggestions?

Also, could any of you please suggest a good travel agency who can arrange a car and guide for us for the whole trip from jogja to ijen? What would be the approximate cost for this 5D4N trip covering prambanan, borobudur, bromo and ijen including accommodation and travel? Could you please share contact details of reliable and reasonable travel agencies from jogja if you have them.

      Thanks.

My best friend and I are both 18 years old and are hoping to travel to Indonesia for 3 weeks, however my parents are having some difficulty with letting me go as they think it won't be safe. My friend is a very experienced British traveller, travelling throughout Africa, Middle East and Europe throughout her childhood with her family and also living in Malawi for many years previously. I am from India and have experience travelling there with the family. How can I convince my parents it would be safe for me to go? If it even is.

      culture and performance

      Bali Mar 16, 2015 at 5:09 AM

Me and my friends are in a tight budget travelling to Bali. We are very much interested in observing and blend in with the local culture, which is better? Ubud or Batubulan considering the budget factor. Which temple should we visited to experience the richness of culture in Bali? We thinking of staying for three nights. with one day at the beach. This is our first time there and is public transport or tourist shuttle bus is available to go to these places?

The initial itinerary as follow; first day in Kuta(pantai Kuta)/South Kuta(padang-padang beach) for the beaches-second day to Uluwati for the beaches, temple and GWK-third day and fourth to either Ubud/Batubulan for the cultural sightseeing.

I know I am Missing a lot of thing but any suggestion for the itineraries? We are very flexible but on tight budget(sorry for mentioning it again and again...lols)

      Hi VTers,
Could you help me with these:
      (a) how much is it to hire a driver for a day - to go to Lembang area for the volcano and hotsprings? Actually, we will be spending a night at one of the resorts in Lembang but I expect we still need to hire a car for the trip there? Please advise.
      (b) I plan to go from Bandung to Yogya to re-visit Borobodur (it's been about 20 years since my first and last visit there). Could you advise about transport (train - time, how to get ticket, fare... or other means)? Also, any places I should see in between or around there as well?

Thanks so much... I have again been too busy with work to really read up much.

    • Which area is good to live as a foreigner?

      Bandung May 18, 2014 at 5:22 AM

Hi there! I am expected to join Institute of Technology in Bandung (ITB) and will stay there for 2 years as a student. Last time I visit there for a short time, I stayed in Cisitu area- it was very close to the campus and enjoyable to live for a short time, but not for a long time. So.. I would like to know whether there is such an area that many foreigners live.- it might means that the area is safe, quite easy to live with english, and easy to find variety of foods. As I searched earlier, Setiabudi / Cihampelas area is both close to the campus and having shopping mall, but I'd like to ask to the people who live/lived there. It would be very helpful if you share your idea of the area and maybe the average cost per month! Thanks in advance!

      Bali Apr 1, 2014 at 6:47 PM

I'm looking to go to Bali in early June for 2 weeks & wondered where's the best area to be in - by the beach in a 4* or 5* hotel that we can visit places of interest from there or chill out some of the time as well? What are the MUST VISIT places in Bali & is there places to go out at night time - for a meal & or just a few drinks, all within walking distance of our hotel? We like to sample the local food & to try different restaurants over our holiday. I must point out that my husband & I are in our 50's when I asked the question. We do enjoy lively at night time, but not too wild -18-30s's. Does Bali have street food (like Thailand) that's safe & good to eat? We've had Indonesian food in UK & other countries before & it's delicious!!!! Is it cheap to eat out in Bali? Once there, is Bali good value?
      Thanks,

    • Bandung car/driver costs

      Bandung Feb 18, 2014 at 6:45 PM

      Good morning,
My group of friends (total 8 adults) will be visiting Bandung in April for 4 days. We'll be staying at Jl Progo. It is our 1st visit & we're looking for a reliable car/driver. I received a quote for 500,000rps for airport transfer & shopping for 1st day & 1 mil rps per day for trips to the volcanos. We were given a Toyota Avanza & Isuzu Elf. As I do not know much abt cars, is the Toyota Avanza able to seat 8 adults? Also is the cost reasonable? Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

I have just emailed Aldhy for his availability/cost. I note that you had recommended him highly.
