I had occasion to visit a bar recently in Waterford situated on one of the "quaysides" to the west of Reginald's Tower, I think I crossed at least one road junction to find it. It had a black frontage with windows that didn't allow one to see inside, (I seem to remember) being covered to half their height. The bar's name looked foriegn and possibly contained the word "america(n)", the name was also framed by two flags, one before and one at the end of the name, which could have been picked out in red. It didn't look like the sort of bar a tourist would venture into but myself and two colleagues were made extremely welcome by a quartet of very "colourful" regular customers and within a few minutes were treated like long lost members of their families. The reason I need the name of the bar is that I took a number of photographs of the afoementioned regulars and landlord and I promised to send them all copies. I know I should have paid more attention to the name of the bar but we were all very "tired" when we finally left the bar to return to the coach, which whisked us on our way. If anyone could shed any light on my problem, I would be very grateful. TIA Toobi-Won

Hello qaminari, Many thanks for your reply. The name doesn't seem the same as I remember it, I'm sure it looked like one word, though I could be mistaken as I was very "tired" when I left it. In any case, at least I have a name which I can telephone tomorrow. Have you been in it? Regards Toobi-Won

"I have been in it since I am from Waterford. It is Jordan's American Bar." Many thanks John, I can't argue with that. ;) Regards Toobi-Won

Next time I would suggest taking a photograph of the outside, with the name! Then you will always remember where you have been....

Hello qaminari, I did take a photo of the outside on leaving but either it had become very windy during the visit or the tiredness had kicked in as the picture was a little blurred to say the least. It did show the colour of the exterior and the name of the establishment over the door though but not clear enough to make out, hence my enqiry. I realy need to get more sleep in future before venturing into such welcoming bars ;) Regards TW.

Andy Jordan is the owner. Lovely man. His sister in law lives just up the road from me. I used to drink there years ago. It's a great place for artists and writers and theatrical people. If you're still unsure, send me a copy of the pic to the site here by email and I'll confirm it for you.

I took a drive by there this morning and the only name over the door is "Jordans" - nothing about the American bar bit or anything. Maybe that's why the name felt shorter to you\!!

I agree that it was always known as an American Bar but that's not on the sign over the door. I think you may be right that it's on the window in the frosted glass......must take another drive past tomorrow;-)

God be with the days when we'd end up there at the early morning bar, drinking cider and eating crisps after a night on the town.

It was lots of fun. I went through my wild child phase in my early thirties:-) A bit later than most.

Yes, they hit it in their forties and call it a mid life crisis!

How bad is this - I was dreaming about Jordans and those American Bar signs last night. I take this site far too seriously.
