Need hotel help

We are a retired couple visiting Washington, D.C. for 1st time late Sept. Have booked 5 nights at Sheraton Four Points in New Carrollton, M.D. It is near the Metro line w/free shuttle service. Can anyone tell me about this neighborhood? Is it safe for my sports car to be in the parking lot at night? The hotel has been getting mixed reviews? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!
