Looking for a safe, inexpensive hotel near DC

Hello, I will be traveling to DC in March with family. We are looking for rooms100 or less near DC, since we will need 3 rooms. It doesn't matter if the hotels are in VA or MD. We are planning on possibily taking the metro into DC to do the tourist stuff. Does anybody have any reccomendations for hotels in the area that are safe, clean and inexpensive? Thank you!
