FUN THINGS TO DO?

by cell_hustlerz Online Now Mar 20, 2006 at 10:54 PM

I AM GOING TO WAIKIKI NEXT WEEK. HAS ANYONE BEEN TO THE AQUAIRIUM PARK OR THE ZOO? I'VE HEARD MIXED REVIEWS ON THEM. WHAT ELSE ARE SOME FUN THINGS TO DO OR SEE? WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT THE WEATHER TO BE LIKE NEXT WEEK IN WAIKIKI?

I have stayed in Waikiki just across the street from the Zoo but havent been to the zoo. Fun things to do in Waikiki/Honolulu Almost every weekend Sunset on the Beach, free movie on a big screen on the beach just across the zoo, with food, drinks etc. Every evening around 18.00pm (summer) and 19.00pm (winter) free Hula show behind the Duke Kahanamehone Statue on Waikiki Boulevard. The boulevard and the International Market place are ok. Check the boogieboarders at the beach just accross the zoo. Other things in and around Honolulu Chinatown, Iloani Palace, Aloha Tower. Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay Hike up Diamond Crater for magnificent view of Honolulu If its raining go shopping at Ala Moana Shopping Centre. Pearl Harbour Rent a car and drive around the island, go to the beaches of the northshore and the Kailua beaches.

Hi. I am on oahu currently, The weather hasn't been too great over the last month or so. Lots of rain, many places are saturated and there have been many destructive flash floods on the windward side of the island. Also, If you have any plans to go up to tantalus I beleive the rains caused a mud slide to cover the roadway. I'm not really sure what the weather will be next week, but we are hoping for some sun. I am sure the mudslide will probably be cleared by then. I would check www.kitv.com/ or www.khnl.com (the local tv stations) to see they usually have great weather reports The zoo and the aquarium are great places, good zoos for a small city. I would choose to go to the aquarium though, the aquarium is a rather small one, but it is nice. It's right on the coastline so you can people watch when you are looking at the tidepool exhibit. I havent been to the zoo lately, It's a city funded park, and is a little aged.

Don't waste your time on either the zoo or aquarium.

Sorry, I don't know if you have kids or not, but I have a 3 year old, and a 1 year old. We did both zoo and aquarium about a month ago. The zoo was actually not bad, they have been renovating it, and had some interesting animals I had never seen in person before. (I have been to L.A. and San Diego's zoo for context.) We also did the Sea Life Adventure Park (about an hour outside of waikiki). The Sea Life park was HORRIBLE, dirty, poorly kept, expensive, touristy, and the animals looked ill. It is one of two places you can have dolphin encounter on Honolulu. The Aquarium was an interesting 30 minutes. The jellyfish were particularly captivating to my daughter. If you have ever been to a great aquarium, then this is NOT that. More like the aquarium you would expect to find in a small coastal town of CA. All in all, if you have time in Waikiki and don't have kids I would skip the zoo and the aquarium and spend a little more time pool side or in the water. If you have time to go to the north shore, my whole family enjoyed the Waimea Falls Park. Would not suggest getting in the water, but it is a lovely low impact "hike".
