Hi can someone tell me if the hotel is still there, Sorry I've forgotten the name it was down from the strand hotel when I was there in 1995.
Not sure which one you mean but there is a Sands there http://www.thesandswaiheke.co.nz/ but I'm not sure that's from 1995. And there's the Onetangi Beach Apartments too http://www.onetangi.co.nz/ and the Dunes http://www.onetangibay.co.nz/ Whether they're the same one or not, these are all good places to stay.

You may be talking about McGinty's Hotel? It has gone now replaced with "The Sands" apartment in Onetangi, maybe this is too late to reply but here's the information :-)
