I am going to St Petersberg, Russia in May with 3 other travelling companions. They all want to visit Stalingrad and do the battle field tours. However I don't . Is there something else I can see in volgograd whilst they do the Battle field tour?
Volgograd is completely destroyed in WWII and all architecture is Soviet style buildings and modern architecture. I think that most of city sightseeings are related with WWII, although there is nice quay of Volga River. Instead, you may stay in StPEtersburg to see surroundings (castles and palaces :-))

How are they planning to get there? I hope not as a day trip from St Petersburg. Distance between the two cities is about 1.700 kms.
