Hi I am meeting my daughters ship coming into Norfolk. I would like a place to see the ship "at sea" before it actually docks into Norfolk. Is there a good place to watch the ships come into harbor that is not on base?

Hi! I am road tripping to Tennessee yet again, I take 81S the whole way and usually drive straight through about 16hrs. I am looking to take it a little easier this time and have always dreamed of traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am looking to spend a day on the parkway and stop somewhere along the way to spend the night. Does anyone have any suggestions as to my most efficient route? Suggestions to my start and end points? I am open to switching between the parkway and 81S. What are some sections of the parkway that I should not miss? I want to make some stops along the way to enjoy the scenery. I think I'm definitely interested in stopping to visit Mabry Mill. I am quite the nature enthusiast and explorer. I am also open to the option of driving through the N. Carolina section of the parkway to Gatlinburg as I am familiar with the area and could travel west into Tennessee that way. Also any suggestions where to stay overnight? I will be traveling the first week of April. Thank you so much for any feedback!

OK, Washington, DC appears to be pet friendly on the Mall and there are hotels in the area that cater to pet owners. We want to leave the big vehicle parked at relatives house near Richmond and take public transit into Washington. Bad news though--Amtrak has strict policies even against hard sided pet carriers for small dogs. Any other trains, buses, or other transit services between Richmond and DC that will allow us to transport the miniature schnauzer?

There are two parks for Jamestown. One is the Historic Jamestowne jointly administered by the NP and The Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and one is a Virginia State Park called Jamestown Festival Park. The NP has jurisdiction over Jamestown Island, but the location of Jamestown seems to be on the island also. Shouldn't the National Park have a separate entry? Should I put the NP tips on Jamestown Island (where there are no tips) or on Jamestown together with the Jamestown Festival Park?

I will be traveling this summer from Cleveland OH to Chincoteague with my 12 year old daughter and a visiting aunt and uncle from Germany. We will end up in Chincoteague but are looking at some fun, interesting places to stop on our way there. The relatives have already seen Williamsburg and DC, so we are looking at other things to see/do on our way to Chincoteague. We could travel south through Virginia (this takes longer though), or east through PA and then through MD. Any thoughts you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, We are planning driving tour to Virginia (2 couples) and debating where we should book hotel: in Williamsburg or Richmond. Since they are really close to each other we definitely want to visit both towns. We are talking about 2 nights. I see there are a lot of interesting things to do in the evening in Williamsburg, from the other hand - there are tons of nice restaurants in Richmond. Please help!:-) Thanks in advance!

Has anyone camped at the national seashore campground in november or december? I'm interested in spending a couple of nights there and doing some hiking. I assume I won't have to deal with too many biting insects this late in the year but I know hunting is allowed in the fall. Is the hunting area anywhere near the campground? Are there no-hunting areas to hike?

I am a photographer, and I would like to take a friend who is a photographer too, to take some photos at different places that have a lot of nice things to take pictures of. I'm interested in a lot of different photography categories, ANIMALS, architecture, trains, NATURE, cars, and things similar to those mentioned. A place that is free to get in to take pictures would be nice, but I'm fine with paying a fee. What are some good places to get some really good pictures of in the richmond area? Thank you all! I've been to the richmond zoo, and I've been to lewis ginter botanical gardens, and I'm looking for a lot of different places to take photos at, like parks, gardens, anything.
