I am trying to plan a 3 week trip through Vietnam and would love to do more train travel, not air!!!! I've read that if you buy a train ticket, say from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, then you cannot make stops along the way. Perhaps I'm a little vague!! let's say i'm travelling from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh. I can't get off at Hue for 2 days and then get back on? Even though, I've bought a ticket through to Ho Ci Minh. Is this true? if so how many days are you allowed to book in advance? as this will effect my timing? This means that each journey is percieved as an individual journey...yes?. I just realised that I sound extremely 'up my own a....' I'm not. I just want to know if this is do'able??? whilst planning in advance? Thanks for any help
Hi, Train tickets doesnt like open bus tickets. You buy Ticket Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh, that means you can stop at Hue, but from Hue/Saigon, you buy a new ticket Hue/Saigon. Better if you buy ticket Hanoi/Hue first then book another ticket in Hue. Cheers, Hien

Open Bus ticket will be the best option to travel Vietnam. You can buy all the stops that you wish to (from Hanoi - HCMC) & confirm your next stop one day before hand in the way secure the ticketing convenient as compare to train travel. You can opt to travel by night to save some accommodation for long journey destinations. Happy exploring Vietnam.

hi You can buy the train ticket from Hanoi to Hue and stay in Hue (and take the bus to Hoi An or around...) Until you want to leave, you buy the ticket from Hue to Ho chi Minh or anywhere you want. there are alots of train depart in one day!
