need a shop in Vienna that sells Australia to European adaptor plug

by kakapo Online Now Jan 4, 2013 at 7:31 AM

I have just discovered I left my travel adaptor at home - aaaghh!!! - I am in Vienna until 10 January then off to Helsinki and parts north and desperately need an adaptor that will accept my AUSTRALIAN plugs and convert to the European socket. I have walked the length of Mariahilferstrasse today and can only find UK or USA -to-European,or European-to anywhere adaptors. Do any locals have any ideas of where I might find an Aussie-to-European adaptor in Vienna? (I realise these are probably only sold in AUstralia, but I thought I'd try asking here). The Aussie plug has three flat prongs. The top two are angled not vertical - looks a bit like this / \ with a vertical one in the middle underneath. Thankyou from an Aussie Idiot PS I am staying near Westbahnhoff and using public transport, so if you suggest a shop in another part of Vienna, transport directions will also be a big help :)

by Johnire Online Now Jan 3, 2013 at 3:14 AM

Hi there. I'm just looking to clarify a point with regard to geeing into Vienna from the airport. The cheapest option appears to be the S7 train to Wien Mitte. Am I correct to say that this fare would be €4? I then will need to transfer onto a U3 to Volkstheater. This is where I am unclear.... Do I need to buy another ticket(which I think is €2) or can I use the original €4 ticket? Thanks in advance for any replies :-)

by Mardai24 Online Now Dec 20, 2012 at 1:53 AM

Friends of mine are heading to VIenna for three days 27 - 30 December. They are staying at the Hotel Bellevue, 1090 Wien, Althanstrasse 5. Can anyone tell me what a good place for breakfast is locally as its not included in their hotel cost? Also, they'll be travelling on a budget, so if anyone has any recommendations re where to eat in the evening (not necessarily by the hotel, but maybe in the centre). Also, travelling by tram, how is it best to travel - to purchase a multiday tickets or pay as hop on? Anyone know of any events on over the few days listed? Any little hidden gems of things to do and see that often get overlooked? So many questions! Apologies, but any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. And thank you all in advance. Have a great Christmas.

Hi there. I will be in Vienna next March and want to book a return ticket by train from Vienna to Salzburg. I have found train times on the offical Austrian train website but the strange thing is that even though it lists trains every hour or so in each direction not all the trains are available.Does anyone know why this is and if they will in the near future be available? Its annoying because my preferred train in terms of both time and journey duration in both directions is the one not available!! Many thanks

      Vienna just before a X'mas

by orlicek13 Online Now Nov 24, 2012 at 7:32 AM

Hi Everyone, Me and my friend are planing a little reunion in Vienna just before x'mas ( sometimes between 19th and 22th December) for approx 2 days. Haven't book yet anything but thinking of Hostel, we both don't really care where we stay as long as its safe and close to all the buzz. Here, I am looking for suggesting where to stay in the center of the city where all the things are happening. Also what is going on during these days - obviously the x'mas markets, but what else can we do, anyone knows any great Coffee house for good coffee, cake what about good pub or restaurant for a meal? :) Things to see at this time of year? (Only been to Vienna at the Airport so haven't seen much of it) Any concert ( classical ) happening at this time? I am looking for any suggestions. Thanks Lucie

Most of the Christmas marts seem to be closed but I was hoping to do a little shopping and a little exploring while seeing what I can (what is open). I only have these two days since I then will be heading to Budapest for the next three days for NYE. Please let me know if you have any ideas of what will be open or if you have ay reccomendations while I am there. Thank you kindly.

I wanted to ask people, we are flying somewhere from Schwechat over New Year, but it costs 100 euros parking for 10 days!! I was thinking there must be a more intelligent way that local people know.. for example, can one park in a residential street in the town Schwechat and take S-Bahn for one stop to the airport? Would be grateful for any tips. Stefan
