Mom and I will be visiting Hofburg Palace on a Tuesday afternoon and need some advice on what we 'should' see in 2 hrs (only 2 hours). I like to take photos (only if it's ok) and mom likes to walk a few steps, sit down and rest (she's 75). Given that we only have 2 hours, and don't want to stand around with crowds just staring at stuff, what should we see once we cross the threshold? I like the Riding School, but we may just miss the afternoon stable tour so I don't know if that's do-able, and mom wants to see the Burgkapelle, even though there will be no concert happening at the time. What other exhibits are 'totally wow-factor'? Also, there seems to be different prices for different areas of the Palace. When we get to the front door, what should we be buying for tickets? I thought it was 10,50euros but there are some wings that are priced differently?
Also, do we have to pay to see the Burgkapelle (empty), the Library (can I take photos?), and Treasury, and the Butterfly house? Is there any type of Combo ticket available? Don't want to wait in line up each time....

Hofburg is a wide complex and every museum has a diff. place to go in ! Photos are poss. even in the treasury, BUT it is quite dark there and NO flash, no tripod ! Burgkapelle will be closed, the horses will take a rest, you can just see them through a window, standing in the stable, 30m away. So what remains: the library, the treasury, both are quite close to each other and ALBERTINA with paintings by Dürer etc. is close as well (NO pics there !) Butterflies are around the corner of Albertina as well. - a bit further: Ephesos-museum + Musical instruments + Iron armitage-museum , all of them same entry-place, photos no problem ! - Sisi-appartments: NO photos !

ok awesome that's what I need to know. I can do a few important things (snap a few photos in the Baroque Hall of the Library!) and then sneak out for a meal at Figlmueller before our train leaves. Thanks so much. Glad I can at least peek at the horses--didn't need to see them in action but viewing them for a few minutes might be nice.

1. Had been there in July 2010. Found the entrance tickets and other tickets too expensive. So, took a leisurely walk in the grounds of the palace. Lovely archways, plenty of benches, birds chirping, sunny weather. Took out lunch packets and had a delightful picnic. Snapped plenty of pictures of the exterior of the magnificient palace. Good enough! 2. If you have only 2 hours and your Mother needs rest intermittently, why climb stairs and be jostled around? Instead, the interior of St. Stephen's Cathedral is bewitching - no entrance fee and snap away to glory.

Oh yes, the famous Figlmüller ! Seems to in every booklet, and then the tourists dont even eat the REAL Wiener Schnitzel there ! They have some of the smallest plates you get for lunch in any restaurant in Vienna, so its easy to serve a Schnitzel bigger than the (small) plate. AND: just watch the waiters, they cannot but tuch your food with their fingers, when serving 3 plates in 2 hands. AND try to place a plate on the table, when more than the whole plate is covered by meat , you have to touch it !!!

Sorry! Please delete/ignore my previous post. It was meant for the Schönbrunn Palace!

Figlmüller Schnitzel is made of PORC ! They also have a real Wr. Schnitzel, that has to be VEAL, but its much more expensive ! I dont think you need tio go there for a good Schnitzel, you will get that as well in AUGUSTINERKELLER, that is right under the Albertina - saves you some time as well !

Oops, didn't know there was a difference. I heard that Figlmuller was the place to go but I don't mind going to someplace where the food is good and the service is courteous and the price won't set us back 2 per-diems....under the Albertina, hey? That's in the Hofburg area, yes?
