Hello, I will be in Vienna from December 12th to 15th and was just wondering if anyone fancies having a look at the Christmas markets and maybe could recommend some good pubs/clubs to go to at night ? Also is it possible to get a train from the airport to the westbahnhof station? as my hotel is near there . Thanks for any help .
There are several good Christmas markets, my favourites are Schönbrunn (in front of the castle), Karlsplatz (in front of Karlskirche, the church) and Spittelberg in 7th district. They can all easily be combined with general sightseeing. Now I recommend that you do Spittelberg at night. There are several clubs and bars in the same area. You basically grab a Glühwein at the market, start the fun and go to the first place that looks appealing to you. Great food at Centimeter, Plützer Brau (brewery) etc. For non-Christmas markets pubs, the so-called American pubs seem to be very popular although not always my cup of tea. Try out Kruger in Krugerstrasse, 1st district and Barfly in 6th district. But again, the area around Spittelberg and 6th/7th district near Mariahilferstrasse plus 4th district near the city centre have plenty of pubs. There are no trains from the airport to Westbahnhof, but there is a bus leaving every 30 minutes going via Südbahnhof.
