Dress Code for Vienna State Opera

by voxz Online Now Nov 17, 2005 at 10:12 PM

Hi all,
Is there a dress code for the standing ticket holders for the Vienna State Opera?
I will be backpacking in Europe for a month and find it a hassle to pack a dress, heels and an evening bag along with it.
Kindly advise.

You definitely won't need particularly fancy dress for standing tickets. As long as you don't look like a homeless person or come in your favourite torn jeans and Metallica t-shirt, you should be fine there.

I agree with that, even for the better places the etiquette is a lot more flexible nowadways !!

    Hi!

I agree with the other members. I often go to the opera (just standing ticket) and I wear normal clothes. Another tips: Standing tickets are only sold 80 minutes before the performance begins. Try to be there at time, because there are long queues on some performances. After you got your ticket, you have to reserve a place, the standing area is not numbered. The first one gets the better place...

Good luck and have a great evening
    Manfred
