Transportation to Monte di Malo

by RVLZ Online Now May 11, 2010 at 5:22 PM

We would like to do a day trip [it may be a very loooong day] from Venice to Vicenza and then somehow north to Monte di Malo, where my husband's grandmother was from. I looked at the bus schedule but that might take us all day [if not days...], plus many of the routes are only available during the school year.
I would gladly spend the day in Vicenza, but it looks like there's still a relative of his living in Monte di Malo, and if we're that close, we might as well go all the way.
I assume we could rent a car for a day.
Would it be possible to hire a driver, or would that be ridiculously expensive?
Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed!

You might as well rent the car in Venice (on the mainland) and drive all the way to Monte di Malo - it's only 60 miles, although www.viamichelin.com says that it will take nearly 2 hours due to the nature of the roads.

The train/bus combo would take at least 2.5 hours plus whatever layover you have in Vicenza (there are only 5 buses tomorrow up to Monte di Malo, so you might have a wait on your hands).

Sure, you could hire a driver, and sure it would be ridiculously expensive...after all, labor costs in Italy aren't low anymore. But the car itself is a good idea - after all, the relative may not be living in Monte di Malo exactly, right?

Do you have some concerns about driving?

Hiring a driver is certainly expensive. Anyway, to find out how much exactly it would cost you can email this company and ask for a quote:

They are based in Mestre and are used to work with clients from many countries.
