I will be visiting Venice with 3 companions and we would like to take a day trip to Vicenza to see the Palladio's works. There are guided tours you can take from Venice, but they are all very expensive, so we would like to travel by train and get a guided tour of the city and some of the Villas (Villa Rotunda in particular.) Does anyone know of a local tour company or guide in Vicenza I can contact to set up a day tour? Is it easy to get a taxi at the train station to take you out to the villas? Thanks!
You won't get 4 of you plus a guide in a taxi so you will probably want a guide who will also drive you to the different sites. Try http://www.vicenzaguide.it/homeng.html

If you want to visit the Rotunda make sure you plan you day of visit on a Wedensday. Even if it is the 500th annual of Palladio the Villa is only opening on Wedensday. You can get to the Rotunda by city bus as well as several other sites, or consider doing a tour by bicycle. www.bikevenice.com You should take the train and arrange a guide from Vicenza. There is an local Info center that offers tours of the area, or you could look into a private guide.
