Reading your comments is sounds like the water is not that nice along the versilia riviera? I start my trip in Lucca and have an extra 3 days for the coast. I leave from Pisa to go home. What City would be the best choice for a stay by the beach?Is there any nice water? Thank you.
Unfortunately the sea of the versilia is really not that good. Expecially in the area of Viareggio and Forte dei marmi. If you want beautiful beaches you have to move a little more far, or into liguria (expecially the area of "cinque terre") or in the opposite direction to the south of tuscany (i suggest all the area of "maremma"). From Lucca, checking the trains and the bus, you can arrive to Elba island. Over there the sea and the beaches are beautiful. Enjoy
