Hi to my helpful VT friends! My family and I are staying in Viareggio for a week before exploring more of Tuscany (Florence, Siena and Porto Ercole). I am looking forward to seeing Lucca, Cinque Terra and Pisa but can anybody suggest any other places to visit or experiences to enjoy whilst in Viareggio? Will there be any opportunities to have a boat excursion, is it realistic to have a trip to Elba and any ideas about scuba diving? A lot of questions I know, but you're always so helpful - thank you! Haley
HI! Viareggio is nice for night life, but the sea is dirty and crowded, so if you look for nice sea, head to livorno and south, till Marina di Bibbona. Elba is really nice, you can go scuba diving even for a day, but u must organize everything in advance the day before, take the first ferry and so on it's doable you should visit the coastal road of livorno (it's called Il Romito), it's a beautiful coastal road with loads of scenic views, beaches, cliffs and so on. I would suggest you go to explore Barga (on the Lucca montains-it's a bbeautiful pleace), Volterra (close to Livorno and Pisa). Cinque Terre is close and Pisa is onloy 15 minutes by train (10 by car on the highway) enjoy your stay! If u like, you can reach also isola di capraia from Livorno hARBour (porto mediceo) in a day trip, it's beautiful and super blue/clean waters

Portofino might be a good choice. Very picturesque drive to this very well maintained village with a couple of very nice little seaside villages on the way. Portofino itself, is smaller than I imagined but was still worth a trip see but if going during the busy season, I suspect the road might get a little too crowded. Check it all out on the web if interested.
