Local bus transportation?

by jpiotter Online Now Apr 18, 2012 at 6:14 AM

We will be spending two weeks in Verneuil-sur-Arve with no car.
We will be using the train for sightseeing.
Is there bus service that will take us to other villages or towns?
Is there "for hire" service like a van?

Thanks for your help.

There is a railway station - here's the timetable

At L'Aigle there are connections to other places in the region which you can find out about on the regional railway website - the line actually goes to Argentan and Granville in one direction, Dreux and Paris in the other.

The rail line to Evreux and Rouen has long since been closed. They run buses instead, but as Verneuil is served only twice a week that's not much good to you.

The departmental bus map is here.

From that you can identify the buses which are, in summary.

Route 360 towards Breteuil and Evreux, once or twice a day other than school buses.
Route 620 towards L'Aigle one bus a day, schooldays only.

There are no buses on Sundays or Holidays and almost everywhere has no buses on Saturdays either

The neighbouring department also has a couple of routes serving the town. You can dig out the details at but in summary

Route 6 to Dreux twice a day at 615am and 1.20pm.
Route 48 to LA FERTE VIDAME once a day for schools except on Wednesdays when there is an extra bus each way

So, in short, there is no reasonable means of getting anywhere except by train or by car. Or bike?

cubsur has given you web links. You might also check local taxi services. There are at least three taxi services in Vernuil. That would be expensive, but since you have two weeks, you might negotiate a deal with one of them for a few days of sightseeing.

The bicycle idea is great if you ride at all. The countryside around is great for cycling. You might entertain the idea of renting a car for a few days too.

Just a few thoughts. Enjoy your trip.
