Vermont in 3 days/2 nights

We're driving through vermont on route to Connecticut and want a B&B to stay for 2 nights. We plan to visit Lake Champlain and the Green Mt Nat Forest and would rather stay near the latter - can anyone recommend a place - is Manchester or Wilmington nice and if so which places could we stay? Or are they very commercialised and should we stay somewhere else. I would appreciate you help. Stella from England
