Traveling with hard of walking senior to Venice.... Transport from S. Lucia train station to San Marco square available? Thank you fellas.....
I've read reviews of hotels in Castello: off the beaten bar path, but right over a noisy vaporetto or gondola stop! Venice has more bridges and canals than my mouth. Does Mestre have lagoons? (no) If i do stay in Mestre, will I lose more than 60 minutes/day in commuting, adding up walking, waiting, and train ride x 2? I'm really after a less noisy place to sleep. Where can i see train schedules? Thanks for your help.
Would appreciate your suggestions as to how to get by rail, and in what preferred sequence from Venice to the Dolomites, Milan, Lake Como, and the Cinque Terre by train. For this portion of a trip next year I have eights days allocated as part of a 3 1/2 week trip to Italy. ther portions of the trip which I have got covered will take in Florence, Rome, Sorrento, Sienna and the hill towns. Thanks for your thoughts in advance :)
Hello everybody! The Italian part of my trip is as follows: - Sept 15th, early morning, arrival in Trieste - Sept 16th, ~21:00, departure through Venice-Treviso Airport, This gives me almost 2 days to see the area, and I'm going by train, and, as a student, I'm short on cash. I'm looking for good ideas on where to spend the first day and night. I have considered going to: - Trieste, which is nice to see with moderate prices for ho(s)tels, - Verona: having an Arena and a nice view from the hill (?), - there are National Parks around Monfolcano and Lignano Sabbiadoro, but I couldn't find any info if they are worth the hassle, - just spending the time in Venice, but sleeping over on the main land. My question is this: is there something along the way to Venice (or maybe around it), making it worth to spend less time in Venice? (with an option for moderately cheap lodging)? Living in Europe, I don't fancy visiting any more churches;) and old buildings unless there's something more "to it". I like great views and I'm a bit of a technology geek; any kind of immersion always seems great to me, be that even a local snack.
Anyone have any info on Sun Transfers? We would like to arrange land taxi service (preferably "meet and greet") from Marco Polo to the Pizzale Roma, where we will stay overnight until our cruise leaves. Thanks. Alan
We are an active senior couple from the USA who will be visiting in Venice on Sunday September 16. We would enjoy meeting an English-speaking resident or couple who would like to show us around your fantastic city and hopefully create a friendship. We have been to Venice twice before and have visited most of the typical tourist sights. So, it would be nice to see some "hidden gems" that most tourists do not see, as well as some of your favorite places. Learning about your culture and way of life is of interest to us. And this is a good way to create peace in the world. If interested and free part of that day, please post a reply. No professional tour-guides, please. Bob & Fran
Hi there, can you someone pls tell me: 1) how to get from Tresito Venice Airport, where I want to leave a car, to the historical centre, exactly to the Casa Favaretto Guest House, Sestiere Castello 2146 ? I want to go from the Czech Republic by car. 2, I decided to park in Tresito transport, it is cheaper than Tronchetto parking or Paizzale Roma. But I do not know, if I make good decision. Maybe transport from airport by water taxi will be also expensive, can someone help me with helpfull piece of advice? Thank you in advance
I'm going to Venice, for the second time, in November. I've never seen Il Lido or Giudecca, Burano (Murano, yes). I can get to these by the regular vaporetti? Also, what are the Offbeat place in Venezia? I can speak tourist Italian. After Venice, I have 7 or 8 days. Which nearby cities, other than Florence, Siena, and San Gimignano, are worth a trip? Mestre, Trieste, Milan, Bologna, Ferrara? I appreciate any advice. Of the airports in these places, which offers the most direct flights to Barcelona or Newcastle or NYC? (Milan?) Mille grazie.
Hello, I will be in Venice from the 27th to the 29th and wanted to visit the Doge's Palace. However, I saw many reviews recommending the Secret Itineraries tour as well. Only thing that it costs 24.3€ for the secret and 16.8€ on the normal one (these prices are from ticketitaly). Any Ideas on the difference or if they are both worth it? Many thanks, Ghassan
I will be driving into northern Italy in late August, and I have heard how hard it is to drive in cities in Italy and the lack of parking. I would like to to find a smaller cheaper place to stay and park the car, that is close to a train station that would be easily accessible to several cities in Northern Italy including Venice and Trieste. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I want to stay 3 days in Venezia and I am travelling with my car, a VWbus that is 2,7 meters high. Where can I park my car and how much is it per day ?

Hi I'm going to stay only one night in Venice, Which hotel has a good location, and is easy to transport from there to take a MSC cruise. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We are spending a few days on the beach at Lido di Jesolo before crusing from Venice. Apart from a taxi which I am told costs around €150, is there a way to get to the Cruise Terminal by sea. As the crow flies it's much nearer than the circuitous route by road. Have tried various travel web sites and venice transport sites without success. I understand we can get bus to Punta Sabbione, but us there a water bus to the cruise terminal from there? Any info would be much appreciated.
If staying in Venice I purchase a 24-hours ticket for vaporetto, am I right that it covers my trip to Burano? Or I should purchase some additional ticket?

While I am in Venice from 25th to 28th July I want my kids to experience the markets that are on small boats. They have watched it in movies. Is there something like that in Venice and how do I go about with it? please advise. Many thanks
I am arriving with my family (husband, cousin and two daughters - ages 12 & 7) in Venice for the first time on 25th July in the afternoon and then taking the cruise on 28th July at 2:00PM. I have no clue which hotel to book etc., but I would prefer staying on a property at the Grand Canal. Also since its my first time to Europe I am a bit nervous but I want to make it the best of 2 days for my kids. Please can someone suggest a nice hotel (4* or 5*). The cost is not an issue but need a clean, safe and friendly place. I would like a hotel which will give us canal view rooms. I really really want to make it a memorable stay. Thank you
I will be in Venice, Italy Summer of 2013 and would like to take a trip into Switzerland. I am only looking to spend 1-2 nights there but wondering which city would be the best to visit, looking for a charming city with beautiful scenery. My main trip is to visit northern Italy but since so close to Switzerland thought maybe should do a quick side trip there. Any thoughts?

I will be visiting Venice for the first time in Nov. There will be six of us in a group and we will be staying in the Dorsoduro area. I am thinking a water taxi is the best way to go from the airport to the apartment, but have read some horrible reviews. Any advise on the best way to book and how to stop any problems before they even begin. Is one company better than another? Thanks

I have booked a train from Mestre, Venice to Rome in a few weeks time and it leaves at 8.39am. I'm staying in the centre of venice so will need a way of getting up to Mestre before this time. Is there a tram/ train that runs from Stazione Santa Lucia to Mestre that would get me there early enough? Also, if so do you know of any timetables that are available? thanks :)
Hi all, Me and my wife are travelling to Venice for three nights in 2 weeks and land about 19.00. We need to get to Lido from Marc O Polo but I needed to know what exactly is the cheapest method? Also I have heard about buying multi day water bus passes in advance for general travel. If the method for getting to Lido from the airport involves using a water bus should I buy this as soon as we land? For how long would be necessary as we leave at 11.00 on fourth day? Many thanks for all your help Kind regards
My partner and I will be in Venice for around 4 days and we were thinking of going to either Murano or Burano. If you could only do one, which one would you recommend please? Thank you in advance for your time.
My partner and I are looking forward to return to Venice in May next year and are already dreaming of the things we will do. Not sure where we will stay this time, last time we had an apartment in Dorsoduro which was great. This time not sure if we will stay there again, Cannaregio or I have found an apartment just off the Riva degli Schiavoni not far from Arsenale. We are both fit and happy to walk (the best thing to do in Venice) but don't want to be right in the middle of the noisy tourist streets. Would love if someone could give us their opinions on where they might stay. Thank you in advance
we will be in venice in july and want to eat good quality italian food where locals eat not tourists Please assist Many thanks MurrayL
Hi, Anyone who already visit the St Marks Bell Tower in Venice? Would you know what are the ringing times of the bell? Im booking a visit to the Bell Tower and just want to make sure that we're not at the top when the bell rang. Any other wonderful places to visit in Venice?
I am staying for a night and venice and then would like to stay a couple of nights in a smaller town/city nearby. I won't have a car so I'll need somewhere that can be reached by bus/train. I should probably spend more than a night and day in Venice but I'll be there in the summer and would like to see it but then go somewhere less crowded. Looking for somewhere that has nice scenery and is a good place to walk around and see the sights. Thanks for any suggestions.
Our cruise is ending in Venice on Aug 28 2012 and I found our that the Venice Film festival starts on the same day. I was wondering how this may impact our stay during these couple of days. I surmise that crowds of tourist(like us) are going to be even bigger. But may be we can enjoy some special events and decorations around the Venice. Any advise for us? Thanks in advance for your help.
