    1. Look at site such as www.booking.com www.venere.com Cheap in Venice is relative. Venice is very expensive. 2. Areas such as Dorsoduro, Canareggio are cheaper than the St Marks area and are just as convenient. 3. There is parking at Piazzale Roma. No idea of the cost. Or you could leave the car in Mestre and come in by train. You could also stay in Mestre - it is very easy to visit Venice from there as there are extremely frequent trains.

There are no 'cheap' hotels in Venice. And, of course, no hotels with parking. Veniuce is small and very walkable. there is no one 'best' place to stay, imo...you can easily walk anywhere. But if you are looking for more reasonably-priced hotels then Dorsoduoro and Canareggio are the more likely areas: they are slightly less visited (although Venice only really exists for its visitors) and have slightly more reasonable prices than the absolute heart of Venice (san Marco, Rialto etc). You have two options: 1. Venice is a very small city: you can cross it on foot in an hour or so. So you could find a reasonably-priced hotel there. I suggest you look at www.booking.com and www.venere.com Both are reliable sites with excellent listings and accurate reviews (which can only be posted by people who have booked through the site and completed their stay). Parking is of course expensive. The cheapest option is on the parking island of Tronchetto, accessed via the causeway from the mainland. Information on tariff etc here: informadove.it/webservizi/si... Once you have parked you will have to use feet or vaporetti (water-bus) or the very expensive water taxis to get around. With liuggag you may feel it is better to find a hotel within walking distance of Piazzale Roma, where all land traffic stops. 2. Find a hotel in Mestre, on the mainland. There are plenty of hotels with parking and their rates are cheaper than Venice proper. If you find a hotel near Mestre station you can take the train into Venice Santa Lucia station (next to Piazzale Roma). There are trains every couple of minutes or so, journey time around 10 minutes, fare around 2 euro one-way. Trains run from around 5am until past midnight, so you will have easy access. There are also buses Mestre>Venice Piazzale Roma which again cost around 2 euro and take about 10 minutes, although they can take longer if there is traffic congestion, and can be crowded. I stayed at the Hotel Cris in Mestre earlier this year. It has parking, is extremely convenient for bus and train and, imo, was very pleasant indeed. I booked through www.booking.com. I suggest you google venice and look at the satellite view. You will see that Venice has no streets at all. Parking is away near the train station. Take a look and see how it is, and also the islands around it. This will help you conceive Venice, etc. Dave

Try www.hostelworld.com. I've got my room in Castello district, around EUR60/nite. It's about 10 mins walk from San Marco (assuming that one doesnt get lost along the streets of Venice). Pretty quiet. The hotel was just next to the Piazza Santa Maria Formosa.
