need advise on water taxis

by debocelli Online Now Jul 2, 2012 at 9:04 AM

I will be visiting Venice for the first time in Nov. There will be six of us in a group and we will be staying in the Dorsoduro area. I am thinking a water taxi is the best way to go from the airport to the apartment, but have read some horrible reviews. Any advise on the best way to book and how to stop any problems before they even begin. Is one company better than another? Thanks

Did you read my recent review? I'd take a water taxi everytime! Yes, they're expensive ---but there are a lot of you! Share the cost! CHeck the total price before you climb in! the experience is fabulous as you leave the airport and head for Venice: the drivers often open the throttle and you really bounce over the waves. Of course, in the city the speed is reduced. as for companies...sorry, I can't help you there.

A water taxi sounds like a great idea and costs €100 to book online in advance : http://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/ The public water bus run by ALILAGUNA from the airport is also great if you happen to know where you are going and if the bus stops at a convenient disembarkation jetty. Fares though are €14 each passenger one way but if any children up to 6 years they are free. The water bus will go via Lido so the journey will take longer although you have the chance to see more of the lagoon and nice way of arriving into Venice. veniceairport.it/page/serviz...

Waterbus is much cheaper. I got myself a day unlimited pass for about EUR20, as I arrived at the Venezia S. Lucia station, and used it to get to the hotel, and other places. It's a cool way to travel Venice, as you can just use it to hop on & hop off the stops. Make sure you validate the pass before you get on the waterbus.
