Please can anyone recommend any fairly cheap restaurants in Venice that are not based around pizza and pasta as my boyfriend is allergic to these foods! Thanks a lot, Claire
Venice is absolutely jammed with places to eat, and nobody forces you to have pizza or pasta. You can do very well with seafood, risotto, polenta, vegetables and salads anywhere you go.

I usually eat here: ristoranteallamadonna.com/in... Mainly seafood, and everything else. Not exactly cheap, but very good quality/price ratio. Quick and essential service, good food. A few steps from Rialto. Ciao Francesco

Pizza and Pasta originally isn't the traditional food in Venice. Try out the fish, polenta, risotto and gnocchi. The bigger problem is getting something cheap, since Venice is very expensive. Look out for "Tavola Calda" instead of restaurants. Dishes are normally displayed at the counter. There you can get a primi for 4-6 euro. A nice place we went to for lunch was Enoteca Boldrin in the Cannaregio Quarter. I think the name of the street was "Cancian" Silke

If your boyfriend must eat a gluten-free diet he may be able to eat in pizzeria anyway. Many of them have a good choice of grilled or steamed vegetables and seafood.

Hi My wife and I went to Venice in June last year. We had our best meal at a place called Trattoria Antica Bessetta in San Polo. I have posted more info on my VT page and on my homepage www.gardkarlsen.com. I have posted a "review" of the resturant together with a trip report and pictures from our stay in Venice :-) Regards Gard Stavanger, Norway
