We are planning to travel from Venezuela to Colombia by bus (via Maracaibo). Has anyone done this in the last couple of weeks and knows more about the current security situation concerning abductions of foreigners by ELN and other groups?
That doesn't really happen in that crossing. Guerrilla activity is very low nowadays. The kidnappings that have occurred in the past haven't been to foreigners in random buses either. Many people that have stayed in my place in Caracas have crossed, and without a glitch every time. I say there is nothing to fear. What DOES happen is that the National Guard stop the bus occasionally to do random checks, and it's a pain.
