    • Big boats versus small private ones to Borromees islands

Lago Maggiore Aug 11, 2015 at 12:37 PM

I read that it is cheaper to sail with the public big boats, and that the small ones charge too much.
Today I spoke with someone that tolsd me that they just came back, and it's the contrary.
What should I beleive - the book advice or the personal recommendation?
What's the truth? And what are the prices?
I know that the small ones save you time, cause they fill up quicker.
Can people who experienced this sale lately share their expereince pls?

    • Need 3 simple bicycles for getting around in Varese Tuesday, Sept 3 through Sunday, Sept 7

by susanhooten Online Now Jun 23, 2013 at 12:37 PM

We would like to find a reasonable rental rate for keeping 3 bikes continuously. We could pick them up the evening of Mon., Sept. 2 (we will arrive from Milan early that evening, probably on the train) and return them the evening of Sunday, Sept . 8. We will be in Varese for the World Masters Rowing events and just need some quick, easy transportation from our B&B to the Lake each day, and for little trips to the grocery store, etc.
We would be glad to pay locals for use of their own bikes, sort of an airbnb for bicycles?!
We can bring our own bike locks and helmets, pumps and repair supplies, if necessary.

      Varese

by EgoAmorMundi Online Now Aug 20, 2012 at 9:14 AM

      Ciao,

I'm going to Varese in October, for a week. Actually, It's a studying-program I will attend, but we will have some sparetime, and now I'm searching for "the do's and don'ts in Varese". How about the sights? What should I know about Italian culture and traditions (I will live in a host family, and I know only a few phrases in Italian)? Any restaurants that you would recommend (preferably Italian cuisine)?

      Grazie molto!

Please help I take size 42 european sizes.

    • LAKE LUGANO

by Ladymarian1 Online Now Feb 27, 2008 at 1:27 PM

      Hi

We're staying at Baveno and would like to drive to Lake Lugano avoiding Switzerland [simple because we don't want to pay the annual road tax, which is expensive]. Are there any boats from the Italian side of Lake Lugano which we could take a trip on - website is a bit inconclusive.

Any ideas on routes etc greatly appreciated

      Hotel or B&B in Saronno?

by greencargirl Online Now Mar 23, 2007 at 3:04 PM

      Bongiorno,

We are seeking accomodation in Saronno near the express train station, and there are a few places that we've found on the internet, but not a single one of them has any traveler-reviews on VT or tripadvisor (or anywhere else that I've discovered). So we have no idea if they are clean, if the beds are comfortable, etc.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the places in Saronno? We see there is a Villa Sogno (B&B), Hotel Cyrano, Hotel Mercurio, Albergo Motel Pioppeto, Albergo Principe, and a few others.

If we end up staying in Saronno, I will have to add a VT travel page for it (there are none!). Thanks,
      Grazie!

    • Varese in December?

by hharrison Online Now Nov 25, 2006 at 1:31 AM

Can anyone give me some advice?

We are visiting Milan in late December and am thinking of spending a few nights in Varese at the Porro Pirelli. We will hire a car and just wondering what the driving conditions will be like? Is heavy snow likely?

I don't know much about the area, so any advice would be warmly received.

by genebeans Online Now Jun 29, 2005 at 11:18 AM

We are thinking of spending a last night at the First Hotel near Malpensa airport. It looks decent on the web site and they have transportation to pick up and drop off for flights.
Question is what I have read is that the hotel food is not good. Does anyone know of a decent restaurant to walk to from this hotel that is kind of local.
      Thanks-
