Ciao, I'm going to Varese in October, for a week. Actually, It's a studying-program I will attend, but we will have some sparetime, and now I'm searching for "the do's and don'ts in Varese". How about the sights? What should I know about Italian culture and traditions (I will live in a host family, and I know only a few phrases in Italian)? Any restaurants that you would recommend (preferably Italian cuisine)? Grazie molto!
One of the must do's is a visit to the Sacro Monte di Varese. Not yet added a tip, but I do have pictures: flickr.com/photos/vtveen/708... happy travels Jaap

Varese is a medium-sized northenr-Italian town, not of particular interest to tourism. However, the surrounding lakes district has a wealth of sightseeing points: just brose destinations in the small towns along the shores of Lago Masggiore (Stresa, Verbania) and Lago de Como (Como, Bellagio etc). Switzerland is only a few kilometers from Varese and has its charms as well (Lago de Lugano). Public transport in the region is good and cheap. Milan is another MUST for a day-trip.

Pls notice restaurants are rather expensive in Varese area, (much) more than many other places in Italy Go where the host family will suggest you
