hi I'll be going to the VT seattle meet ( my first one!!), but have extra days off so I will be heading into Vancouver by bus from Calgary. I was in Vancouver in 2007 but missed most of the sights. I saw Stanley park but that was about it. can anyone recommend some funky places to check out and some cheap but clean hotels or hostels? Thanks
Hi there, The YWCA on Beatty street is a very clean and well priced option. it is 1 block from the skytrain and one stop from the Bus/Train station. The sights too see would be Granville Island (a much larger Eau Claire) on the water. Walking distance - even better take the Aqua Bus Chinatown (walking distance), Lynn Canyon, Grouse Mountain - easy by bus.

Other sights to see: Dr Sun Yat Sen garden Museum of Anthropology at UBC Wreak Beach at UBC for that all over tan. Station 6 trail Shops on Granville and Robson Street Vancouver Art Gallery Stanley Park Do the Grouse Grind (if it is open by the time you arrive)and take the tram back down off the mountain. Catch one of the several local plays or improv groups. Vancouver also has a get burlesque scene. Eat at a few of the great Chinese or Indian cafes. Too many to choose from. La Casa Gelato on Prior St. 218 flavours of gelato. Some bizarre, but so good. Have a great time in Vancouver.

If money is the issue, then the choice is easy. For the bridge, i always recommend Lynn Canyon over Capilano anyway.... more
