you might think about a "culinary" trip to Alicante (160km) so in your holiday you'll try both paellas, valenciana y alicantina, where they are coming from. I did it.

Of course Alicante is a good choice (I'm biased, it's where I live). There are also nice places along the coast between Alicante and Valencia (Javea, Denia, Altea). If you prefer landlocked provinces you can go to Cuenca (recently connected to Valencia by AVE train; less than 1 hour) or Teruel (check alsa or movelia for buses, regional train is slow).

A good option for a day trip would be going to the Albufera, having a boat ride through the park, enjoying a good Paella in the Palmar area and then be on the lookout for a perfect sunset. Valencia would have too many options for day trips depending on your choices - Are you a culture lover - go to Xativa, where you can see some exceptional remains from the moor period of Valencia and have a taste of some excellent gastronomy. If you are a beach lover, and now that the climate is changing for the better, Gandia, Oliva, Benicasim etc., are great nearby towns whcih have a lot to offer apart from great beaches and a huge variety of local specialities as fara as food is concerned. if you are a wine lover go to the Utiel-Reuquena area where you have a lot of wineyards. The city itself has a lot to offer so depending on the period of your stay you might want to spend more time in Valencia to enjoy, tapas, fiestas, culture, clubbing, shopping, museusms and much more. If you have any specific interst, please meniton and I will try to help you in the best possible way. Regards Mahesh

Maybe some hot springs not too far away from Valencia? I've been there and enjoyed a lot.
