We are planning to go to south America in February 08. Is the quite expensive boat trip to Pto arenas wirth doing, or are there cheaper alternatives.

    I think you can take a regular cruise from Buenos Aires to Santiago (or from Santiago to Buenos Aires), you'll see a lot of places for a good price; I've taken the NCL from Buenos Aires to Santiago and loved. Another option is to go to Ushuaia and make day excursions. There was a chilean ship from Puerto Williams to Punta Arenas, I don't know if it's still running
