How to get from Urbino to Cortona

by esmesev Online Now Sep 19, 2010 at 2:55 AM

Hello everybody!

We're planning to get to urbino on the 8th of December and go from there to Cortona on the 9th, in the morning.
We have searched for a bus line from Urbino to Cortona on http://www.sitabus.it and http://www.amibus.it/ but, evend though one of us speaks italian, we could not find any direct line.
Could please tell us how to find out the timetable of the bus lines between Urbino and Cortona.

Thank you in advance

    I cannot find any Urbino>Cortona buses on the 'extraurbano' part of the bus website serving Urbino:

    http://www.adriabus.eu

    and have not ye found any elsewhere.

    There may not be any direct buses. Urbino and Cortona are quite some distance apart (160+km). The Italian rail network is extensive, and used more than long-distance buses so the latter are not always available.

    You could get the bus to Pesaro, the nearest railway station to Urbino. From there, take a train to Terontola-Cortona (11km away) or Camucia-Cortona (5km away). There will be onward bus services from both stations.

    You have the Urbino>Pesaro bus information on my previous reply. Train times, details and fares in English here:

    trenitalia.it/homepage_en.ht...

    Both journeys are quite lengthy, and involve changes.

    There are no direct busses between Urbino (region Marche) and Cortona (region Toscana). The option back to Pesaro to catch a train is a very bad idea (too long and very much long winded, too many connections in between).

    There are busses from Urbino to Arezzo (Toscana):
    baschetti.it/doc-bin/pdf_ora...
    And in Arezzo you can catch a bus to Cortona (only a bit more south). I'll find it soon.

    This is the timetable for busses from Arezzo to Cortona:
    lfi.it/orari_linee_etr_mob/L...
    (only 30 km distance).

    I'm glad you were around to come up with a better alternative than the train plan, Ingrid. It is, of course, afeasible (if lengthy) journey but I hoped there would be a better bus+bus option.

    Hm, I don't know. It opens on my computer. Oh, maybe you tried to click on it in the answer I wrote. This does not work in our forums. Copy the whole link and paste it into a new window and click enter.
    Try please and if it still does not work, I'll write the hours down.

    I just saw another thing that might make you need to change the dates: according to this schedule, there are only two busses per week which go from Urbino to Arezzo:
    On Monday from 7:50 a.m. with bus change in Sansepolcro (Toscana as well) at 9:50 and arrives in Arezzo at 12:10.
    On Wednesday from 14:30 (2:30 p.m.) direct bus to Arezzo, arrives at 18:40 (6:40 p.m.).
    So no bus on Thursdays, which is December 9.

    You did say it, yes. But cannot always guarantee locals will be around, so basic ideas/info are always useful. Are you one yet, btw?

    @esmesev:
    I suppose you still don't have a satisfying solution for your transport from Urbino to Cortona on this December 9?
    The problem with these busses is that the inter-region public transport isn't the best in Italy between the lesser known destinations.
    I am in Gubbio during this time (which is approx. 60 km southwest of Urbino) and if you take a bus to Gubbio I could drive you to Cortona. Provided there is no snow on the roads (I am not the best driver in winter conditions). Gubbio to Cortona is approx. 70 km direct road via Umbertide.

    @esmesev:
    I have sent you the link via VT mail. Tell me if it works from there. In VT mail, links get clickable.

    Oh, sorry for your typing error. I can't help you with transport in October. I am bound to be where I actually live (which is 1300 km north of middle Italy).
    But you can go to Urbino's tourist office. According to what I have read, they are very much helpful!
    I.A.T is directly opposite of Palazzo Ducale (opposite of the main piazza in front of the palazzo).
