Hi all, am new to the site. My fiancee and I are heading to Cockermouth in June and are wanting to know of any hidden gens within the lake district worth checking out. We are there for 7 days and want to try and fit as much in as possible.
Many thanks :)
I have a 15 hr overnight layover at Heathrow and I am thinking to go and check out London since it will be my first time there.
My questions are:
1. Am I allowed to leave the airport with the transit visa and then return to continue my flight?
2. Do the trains or buses to and from the airport operate 24/7?
3. Is there a place that you recommend a first time visitor to check out at night? (A mall, street, park etc.)
hello everyone... me and my mum are deciding to travell to usa from india via china airlines..but i just cant figure out the fare from their site..do you know the fare for economy class and family coach and premium economy
I have booked flights with Singapore Airlines from Edinburgh to Singapore next month. I arrive at Heathrow Terminal 5 at 0925on a BA flight and leave from Terminal 2 with Singapore Airlines at 1130 so just over 2 hours connection time.
Will this be enough? I'm not sure if I can check my suitcase through from Edinburgh as I don't think there is a Singapore Airlines check in there.(The BA ticket was bought through them though.)
I'm panicking a little as, although I know Singapore Airlines will be obliged to get me back if I don't make the connection, all the later flights seem to be full and I have an onward connection to New Zealand that I need to get.
I'd really appreciate any advice. 3
We have been several times to London and seen the usual things. Can anyone suggest other things to do, places to go and see?
Looking to travel to Scotland but would like to go in the off season. Much into historical monuments and the beautiful landscape but don't want to be bothered by huge crowds of tourists. Thank you
How is the best and least expensive way to get from Southampton Cruise Terminal to London Center. Thanks.
Me and my mum will be flying to us from delhi and have a layover of an hour only..We were wondering if that time is enough ..Also my mum cannot walk that fast ..so we were thinking of booking a wheelchair.so will i be allowed to accompany my mum.. my mum is 53 years old and i am 17 yrs old
I'm trying to plan a trip for my niece and I for late June and I'm a little pressed for time since it's not that far away. Anyway when I asked where she wanted to go she said London (again!). Since I've already brought her there twice I thought maybe we could spend a day or two in London but then head to another part of the UK and stay for a couple of days, the whole trip will be 7-8 days, OK with moving more than once. I've never done this without a car or without just taking daytrips from London so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for places I could base from without a car and still see a few different places. My thoughts so far:
train to Cardiff, I missed it on our Wales trip last summer but are there places nearby that wouldn't require a car or serious travel times?
train to York, I've always wanted to overnight there and do a ghost tour, what else could I feasibly reach by train/bus? I see Castle Howard mentioned which I've not been to. Or maybe we could do a night or two in York and then continue up to Edinburgh? How hard is to get to Whitby? My husband suggested stopping in Warwick (London-Warwick-York-Edinburgh) to see the castle (I've been twice, she hasn't) but I'd have to see how that would work and I think it'd be too much.
train to Bath, I've never overnighted there, what else could I train/bus to nearby? Bristol? Cardiff?
I'm also thinking about maybe Ireland and skipping London but I think I've got the options covered if I do that.
Any other options I should consider? This would be late June/early July.
Hi, we will visit Belfast to find sites of Games of Thrones from june 4 to june 7.
I found some interesting tours : gameofthrones-winterfelltour...
to visit the area around winterfell. I could not find any going up north l to Cairncastle ,Shillanavogy Valley to Cushendall and BallyCastle. Are there any daytrips or tours or will it be posible to visit these places by public transport??
Thanks very much for your answers. Louise
Just scheming right now but I think I'm going to try and go back to Scotland this summer. If it works out, Mr. Dabs will be doing a swim race in Loch Lomond in late August and from there I'd like to head north and the two places I've got on my list so far are Eilean Donan castle and the Isle of Skye. And my grandfather was born just outside of Glasgow so I may want to put that in there somewhere. I'm assuming we'd have to fly into Edinburgh, United flies straight into Edinburgh from Chicago for sure in the summer.
So if we do a round trip from either one and hit those two spots, what other places should I be looking at? Last summer I visited a lot of the castles in and around Edinburgh (Stirling, Linlithgow, Craigmillar) and I did a 1 day bus trip that went to Inveraray, Loch Awe, Doune so no need to revisit any of them.
Can anyone please suggest for ways to reach belfast port from belfast city centres early in the morning at 6:00 AM please.
After reading so many reviews from you all i have decided to visit isle of skye. Pl tell should i go with a 3 day tour by Timberbush.as I will be using public transport. If not then is it possible to move of our own I mean the transportation and all will be convenient. I have booked 2nights stay in portree. This is in july.
We are travelling to London next week to 'hopefully' sort out our Russian visa's. We are driving up from the south west along the a303 and m3. Does anyone know a good place to park on the outskirts of London so we can catch the train in. We could catch the train from Exeter but for 4 of us I would need to sell the house to pay for it.
Can you tell me what is possible to do in a few hours from 7 am to 3 pm in Edinburgh?
Is it maybe possible to go to Glasgow or St Andrews?
Is it possible to go to Arthur's seat early in the morning? How long does it take from Masson House to get to Arthur's seat?
Thank you very much!
Has anyone taken the hop on hop off belfast tour. I have an option of either walking the destinations/taking a metro bus day card/hop on hop off. Which one do you think is a better choice? Thanks in advance.
I will be flying from London and landing at Belfast around noon. Then plan to take rental car and then proceed to Belfast Castle. Then head to Armoy, Antrim to see some locations of Game of Thornes. Then end the day in LondonDerry hotel. Then start next day drive around coast, visit Giant's causeway and head back to Belfast. I think we may have more time in Day 2 - please suggest if we can cover more., our flight back is at around 7pm, so we may need to drop our car around 5pm. If we can cover more - whatelse we can cover - or can we rearrange our itinerary to a better one?
I want to get to Heathrow from London's City airport. Suggestions?
im thinking of spending a night in Oban for mayday with my partner for a change of scenery. I live just outside fraserburgh where during May Day Sunday all the bars have bands and other entertainment and wondered what Oban has to offer during this day ?
I'm planning on a visit to Forres Scotland in June 2015. Can you tell me if there is Public Transportation around the town? I will not have a car to get around town and need to know if there are buses I can take to get around.
I would like to go see the Brodies Castle, Cawdor Castle and Suenos Stone. I also want to see the monastery. It all hinges on if I need to hire taxis to get around.
We are travelling from Dubai to Lisbon (Europe).
We have Portugal residence permit.
We will reach from Dubai to London Heathrow, at terminal 5. After 6 hours we have flight from London Heathrow, terminal 3 to Lisbon. (same on Return)
My question is;
1. Do we need a UK transit or Direct Air/Aisle visa?
2. Will we cross any UK border from terminal 5 to terminal 3 or vice versa?
Does anyone know if there are public buses around the town of Forres Scotland? I plan on visiting there first week of June.
We will be flying into UK this weekend with a 11 month old baby (stroller) and were wondering which one is a better and cheaper option to use - Zipcar vs Subway vs (sixt.co.uk/avis/hertz)?? We get to Heathrow and need to get to Islington. Is renting a car from zipcar or any other traditional car hire make sense?
Another transportation query - If we take the Subway, would it be easy to travel from Heathrow to Islington with a baby, stroller and our luggage or would it make sense to rent a car? Is the Subway stroller friendly?
Thanks for your help in advance!
I will be visiting London the 23th and 24th of May. Coming from Harwich to Stratford and am looking for a budget hotel with twin bed hotelroom (2 single beds). Budget is around 100 pounds maximum and looking for a pretty central place near a tubestation. Any tips near for example Kings Cross or Stratford and maybe a hidden gem?
Thank you! :)
We are looking at booking a lounge but there are none in terminal 5
Could we use a lounge in another terminal
I have never been to England and will be in Warwick until 29th June then am booked for a Cosmos Tour of Britain Scotland and Ireland on 12th July leaving from London and need some suggestions as to what would be a good place to base myself so I can do a bit of exploring off the beaten track for the 13 days in between. I was considering Coventry as may be able to get an airbnb accommodation there. Is this a good base and if not where would you suggest. Thanks, looking forward to some solutions. cheers.
This summer we plan to make a trip to Europe. So, we’re looking for the not too expensive travel agency in Belfast. I’d like to hear about your own experience. Thanks.
Hi - we are a party of 4 arriving at Heathrow and wanting to travel by public transport, or door to door shuttle if possible, to the Windsor Holiday Apartments - 73 High Street, >London N8 with as few changes as possible. It would be wonderful if someone could let us know. Thank you.
We are travelling to London craft beer festival at August. The festival takes place at place called "The Oval space". My husband suggested we could stay near it, but we´ve never been in that area. I think we wouldn´t need to, since we stay 4 nights, and planning to go there for one day. Or what do you think? How is the area? We´ve stayed at Paddington, at the City (near Liverpool street station) and at Victoria area before. None of them is a must now, could go to new area again. I´m searching for places at airbnb, they seem to be chepaer than hotels in London also.
We like to go to a pub at night (craft beers are huge bonus on pub menu ;) ) and find places to eat near the place we stay.
Currently I am planning a road trip throughout Scotland. I have planned my basic itinerary but I was hoping for some input to see if it is doable and/or if any adjustments should be made. My dates are from August 22 - September 12. So far I have the following planned:
2 nights in Edinburgh for the festival (accommodations already booked)
2 nights in Loch Lomond area
3 nights in Oban
3 nights on the Isle of Skye
2 nights on the Isle of Harris and Lewis
3 nights on the Orkney Islands
2 nights in Inverness
2 nights in Aviemore
1 night in St. Andrews
1 night in Edinburgh for an early morning flight
I am planning to rent a car on the way out of Edinburgh on August 24. I will be by myself (therefore doing all the driving) so I'm wondering if this route is doable or too ambitious? Have I left out any highlights/must stops?
Any recommendations on "must sees" along this route?
Much thanks in advance! :)
