Hi Myself and son will be in ayers rock resort for 2 nights in may. we have booked a sunrise tour and base walk and a sunset tour. On last day we do not fly out until 14.35hrs so would like to go back to uluru for the morning poss rock climb. The shuttle costs45 each i think quite expensive.does anyone know how close to the rock it stops. Thinking may be cheaper or about the same to hire a car for day but not sure how close you can park to the rock. Anyone know how long it would take to walk. Many thanks Alan
Shame you did not ask the question before you booked your tours. The cheapest and most convenient way of travelling into the Park (especially as there are 2 of you) is to hire a car. You pay for the car, the 3 day pass and can travel in and out at your own convenience. 2 day car hire is cheaper than one person on a sunset trip. Walking from the resort to Uluru is not an option (estimating its about 20kms to the rock itself). Problem with shuttle is that each time you enter the park, you are having to pay the entry fee as part of the price. If you cannot cancel your already booked trips, you'll probably need to book a car. car parking is available at the base of Uluru in designated spots. But you should also go to Kata Tjuta. Please respect the wishes of the local indigenous population and do not climb Uluru.

There are a number of car parks around the base of Uluru. And there's also a number around Kata Tjuta. As Leffe said, you're better off driving yourself. And you can fit in more things to see at your own pace. And also better off not climbing the rock.

I agree with the guys that have already answered your question...( Hello you two xxx) I just wanted to add that it would be good if you didn't climb the *Rock*:)
