3-4 days Mereenie Loop Road ?

Hi, we plan to visit Ayers Rock, Kings Canyon and Glen Helen in October. Our plan is to do a one way trip from Ayers Rock to Alice Springs via the Mereenie Loop Road. We right now do not now how much time this really takes and whether we should use a 4WD ? Has anybody some suggestions/experiences ? It would be very helpful !!! In addition we have to book accomodations for that tour. What alternatives do we have ? (Low budget preferred) Many Thanks Dietmar
