Bwindi Gorilla Trekking

HI If i come out to Uganda I want to go gorilla trekking in Bwindi but wondered what it is like ( i know you have to get a permit etc) and what sort of boots you need to wear? Can you just wear trekking trainers that are not waterproof? Any advice on preparing for such a trip. thanks k
