I have a friend who is stationed in 29 palms and is trying to come home for christmas...but we cant figure out what transportation to take from 29 palms to the las vegas airport or if there is any other way...if anyone can help i would really appreciate it. thanks
There is an airport in Palm Springs. That would be pretty easy. There is also an airport in Ontario and he could get a greyhound bus (or a ride from a buddy) to that. Las Vegas is pretty far from 29 Palms and there aren't many roads. Have him check ONT (Ontario International Airport) or PSP (Palm Springs International Airport) and see what kind of flights he can find from there. Palm Springs would be easiest.

It is possible to get from the base to Palm Springs Airport by bus, so that would be the easiest option. Second would be Ontario, although that would require a Greyhound or Amtrak ride plus another somewhat complex public bus trip. For Vegas, he would have to take the public bus (or get a ride) into Palm Springs and take Greyhound to San Bernardino, then transfer to another bus going to Las Vegas. Both of these are very popular Greyhound routes though, so they run pretty often and the transfer shouldn't be too bad. Greyhound also offers military discounts for round-trip tickets.

He needs to check with MWR office on post and they can give him the best option and probably even sell him the tickets.

Well... Bus to LV might be one option but 29P is close to San Diego airport which would be a faster option.

San Diego Airport is not close to 29 Palms. Palm Springs is closest and then Ontario Airport. Possibly more flights out of Ontario Airport especially on Southwest.

There is also an Amtrak station in Palm Springs, but the usefulness of that depends on where you are trying to go after that.

Without clarification, proper advise is not easy. Is he trying to get home to Vegas? Is he trying to get to Vegas to fly home from there? Take a bus to Ontario Airport, and fly to Vegas from there. Unless there are flights now from Palm Springs to Vegas direct. I have not had a reason to check.
