    • Ashgabat only - most independent trip possible?

      Turkmenistan May 19, 2015 at 9:31 PM

Hello! I'm a 20-year old citizen of Sweden interested in a week-long visit in Ashgabat only. Since I'm not eligible for a transit visa, I have to make at least some form of booking through a travel agency.

I would get my visa either from the embassy in Geneva (Switzerland) or on arrival at Ashgabat Airport, I would fly either Zurich-Frankfurt-Ashgabat with Lufthansa or Zurich-Istanbul-Ashgabat with Turkish Airlines, and I would choose the cheapest private Hotel room that is either in the city centre or has a local bus stop nearby (I mainly intend to use public transport).

If I've understood it correctly, it is impossible to get a LOI for a 100% independent trip, although it can get more independent if you only visit Ashgabat (correct me if I'm wrong). So, what is the "most independent" I can get? What travel agency would be preferable for this purpose?

In other words, what are the absolute minimum requirements for getting the LOI for a tourist visa?

Thanks in advance for any help

      ferry to Baku

by ellielou Online Now Nov 1, 2006 at 8:34 AM

      hi VTers,

I feel honored to be the first person ever to post a query in this fourm. Anyway, I hope to make it a good one, so here it goes:

Has anyone taken the ferry from here to Baku? I've read that it's very inconsistent (to say the least) and wondered what experience VTer have had with this and this route/ferry in general. (I'll be traveling on a bit of a tight time frame, and don't have days to wait in Turkmenbashi for a ferry to arrive.....)

Thanks...and, I so hope that this inaugural Turkmenbashi forum posting gets a reply!
