Gifts for Turkish colleagues

by 2itchyfeet Online Now Jun 6, 2008 at 11:41 PM

Hi, I'll be visiting Istanbul shortly and I'd like to bring small gifts for my Turkish colleagues since they've been incredibly helpful. There are 2 guys and 1 lady I need to shop for, I don't know any of them very well personally so I'd appreciate some ideas on appropriate gifts. Thank you!

Something typical of your own country is always a good bet.

Well, go to the Grand Bazaar, avoid the small Bazaar in Sultanamed because they could rip you off, and don't forget to haggle. I would get a Pashmina for your female colleague, they are extremely cheap like 10 euros a piece, but if you want to be more splendid then get a hand made pashmina that could cost you about 35 euros. They are not made in Turkey, but they are beautiful and women love them. Another good present for a female is a hand woven silk or cotton scarf, made in Turkey. I found a couple of small stores where you can get them. For the guys, hmmmm, that's a bit more difficult, but you'll find an amazing amount of stuff inside the Grand Bazaar.
