Hi. My husband and I are planning on staying at the Storm's River Mouth Rest camp at the end of February. Since all accommodation is self-catering and picnics come highly recommended (not to diss the restaurant :-)), is it possible to buy groceries inside the park or should we plan to pick up some food on our way there?
Hi there. Storms River Mouth Rest Camp does have a little shop for souvenirs and basic commodities. However, I would advise you to rather stock up from a supermarket before you get there and use the shop only for perishables or emergency stocks.

The little shop is adequate for picnic meals, but the range is small and the prices are high. Nearest big supermarkets are at Plettenberg Bay. Lots of excellent smaller cottage industry cheese making, bakeries, butcheries outside of the park, but not easy to spot.

Plettenberg Bay is 63km before Storms River Mouth. No problem to stock up there for the 40 minute drive to your refrigerator. 9km further along the N2, from where you turn right for the 9km down to the park, there is a highway fuel stop and convenience store (with ATM's). This is where the N2 crosses the Storms River. People living in the park would find this to be there nearest ATM and slightly bigger store than in the park, 18km away. However, we prefer the 63km back to Plett. Or, at 46km back in the direction of Plett, two small supermarkets either side of the N2 at Crags or Kurland. One has a good butchery, the other a good bakery. (also fuel and a mini-ATM) They look all worn down, but don't let that put you off - the food quality is good.

if you are coming from oudtshoorn, the nearest town with supermarkets and bigger convenience stores and restaurants will ba knysna. In george, the garden route mall will give you a lot of choices for shopping. Inside the park, there is also a restaurant, but you will need to pre-order your meals ahead of time for dinner. bong

Bong, I tried so hard to explain that Pleetenberg Bay has decent shops, but you seem to disagree! africa-adventure.org/m/marke... The Market Square development in Plett is only a few years old, but it is there and it is real! On the Keurbooms side of Plett - the mall has its back against the N2....it cannot be missed.
