    • Hiking around Pale di San Martino

      Dolomiti Feb 2, 2016 at 11:33 AM

Hi - We're planning a few days' hike in the Dolomites, in Pale di San Martino, and I did help planning it.... I did a lovely hike about 20 years ago - but I can't remember the details... I know at least a par of it was part of the Alte Via 2. I started with the cable car from San Martino to Rosetta hut, then walked about 3 hours to another hut, stayed the night there, and continued next day to another hut, from there came down and found my way back to San Martino... I'm almost sure the first hut was Pradidali, but I have no idea which was the second one... I would like to do something similar this year - in July - but need more info about trails and huts. Any suggestion for a trek that starts with this cable car, then has about 3-4 hours of walking to the next hut where we can spend the night, and from which we can continue to another trail of 3-4 hours to another hut - from which we can walk back to San Martino - will be very much appreciated. Another option is to stay 2 nights in the same mountain hut - and doing a day walk in between.

So I need advice on -

Option A: San Martino - cable car - Rosetta - trail for a 3-4 hours walk (preferably not too steep uphill) to - Rifugio 1 - trail for a 3-4 hours walk (preferably not too steep uphill) to - Rifugio 2 - trail for a 3-4 hours walk (preferably not too steep downhill) , back to - San Martino

Option B: San Martino - cable car - Rosetta - trail for a 3-4 hours walk (preferably not too steep uphill) to - Rifugio 1 - trail for a 3-4 hours walk (preferably not too steep) back to Rifugio 1 - trail for a 3-4 hours walk (preferably not too steep downhill) , back to - San Martino Thanks a lot in advance, Ana.

    • Rental car Sardinia --> Corsica posisble?

      Sardegna Jan 17, 2016 at 12:40 PM

      Hi,

We are planning 3 weeks for Sardinia. As this is a bit long, we wish to combine it with Corsica. Idea is to fly into Corsica and out of Sardinia (or vice versa). But can anyone please advice on the most logical thing to do with the rental car? Can we collect in Sardina and hand in in Corsica, to save the travel back time and ferry costs?

For short: travel-time is June '16, family of 4 (2 kids of 2 and 4 yrs), have own car-seats with us.

      Thanks guys!

      Robin.

    • 1 week in Tuscany / Le Marche

Le Marche Feb 5, 2016 at 12:00 PM

      Hey there.

My wife and I are celebrating our 1st Anniversary with 1 week in Italy. Apr 6 - 13th. Flying in and out of Florence. 24hr layover in Amsterdam. :-)

We've been to Venice, Rome, Cinque Terre, Naples and Sicily before but not the Tuscany region.

We're both early 30s, quiet and will be renting a car in Florence. We're thinking a couple days in Florence then rent the car and explore Tuscany.

We'd love to visit San Marino (just love those tiny countries), see some of Le Marche (up for suggestions) and then just explore the hillside towns throughout Tuscany. She wants to stop at a vinyard or two and I'd love to taste some amazing olive oil + focaccia bread (my fav!).

Any suggestions that pop to mind, please let me know. We haven't even really started looking into this yet.. in the middle of a move and other things.

      Thanks!

      Day trip from Venice, Italy

      Cremona Jan 21, 2016 at 6:17 PM

      Hi fellas :-)
Hope you will help me, as you always do. I could not find it on the net, or rather - what I am finding so far - train from Santa Lucia station in Venice takes around five hours one way. Any other recommendations from those who done it or those who live in the area? I will be in Venice April 3 through April 9. Since it is my eleventh visit to Venice, I could spare one day and leave my beloved Serenisima to visit Cremona. Is it possible/feasible? leaving Venice in the morning and coming back by night time, having at least three hours for Cremona? Kinda seems impossible, but let's try...

      Hi,
we will be in Zambrone since 15/06 till 20/06.

Do You think there will be a chance to hike near the volcano of Stromboli in this timing?
I read that the ferries are starting since 20/06. Maybe some small agency can offer this trip....?

But I am not interessted in one of those mentioned trips, where You can just visit the Stromboli for 1 hour and use it for shopping or something and then You can see the island just from the boat. We would like to have a hiking trip to see it really from the top.

We will have a car, so we can depart from both areas, Tropea or Reggio Calabria.

If there will be a combination let's say with Volcano island, it would be completely perfect. But this would not be probably possible to combine during one day.

Thanks in advance for Your advices and recommendations or experiences.

My fiance and I are planning our Honeymoon and would like to base it around a timeshare week in Tropea the last week of September. We plan on flying into Rome, spending a couple days there then driving to Naples where we would rent a car and drive to Tropea. We would love to spend time on the Amalfi coast/Capri/Sorrento but would have this week long time share in Tropea. We are planning on spending 10 days total in Italy. Can anyone give some insight on what the best way to do Rome/Napels/Tropea? Once in Tropea, would it be worth it to go back up to Naples for a day or two or should we get it out of the way on the way down to Tropea? Any suggestions on what we could do in the Tropea area for a week? We are on a budget and just want to make our trip the most efficient :-) Thanks for your help!

      Hi

I am heading to Tropea next week and was hoping for some advice on getting there from Lamezia airport.

I land at around 19:30pm and as far as I can tell, my only option at that time will be to get a taxi (I will not be hiring a car for my trip). I have been given a quote of 70 Euro with a pre-book taxi service but have no idea if this is a fair price or whether I will be better off just finding one at the taxi rank at the terminal.

Any help would be much appreciated.

      Hi,

I'd like to spend anywhere from 3-5 days in Tropea at the end of August. I know this is high season, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any budget accommodation? I've tried searching on the internet and the cheapest I can find is close to 100 euros a night. Are there also budget alternatives for backpackers? I'm still a student, and I am not fussy about comfort or a nice room. I'm happy with basic accommodation, all I'd like is a bed and place to shower. Someone once told me about the possibility of staying in convents for cheap - is this possible?

      Any suggestions?

      Thanks very much,
