Hi, I went on holiday to Brela in Sept 04, and want to return to Croatia in June this year with my fiance. I want to go to Trogir this time as I took a trip there on my last holiday and thought it was gorgeous. But last time I was only there for a few hours. I want to be sure that if we are staying for a fortnight there will be enough to do (we're not really lying-on-the-beach-type people!) and good restaurants, bars etc. Any information that anyone's got about Trogir would be good, and might help ease my fiance's worries. (He thinks we're going to be stranded in the middle of nowhere!!) Also, I've found a pretty good deal for the Hotel Medena. Does anyone know what it's like and whether it will meet our needs? That is can we get to other places easily on foot/bus/taxi (after a few drinks!) and what is available there. Thanks
No offense to those VTers who live in Trogir, but I can't imagine spending a two-week vacation there. It is VERY small. I spent a day and a night there, and that seemed like enough (during a 10-day trip to Croatia).

Yes, I think Trogir is a good place to spend one or two days. There is not much to do there apart to visit the Cathedral and have a good lunch.

I haven't been since 2000, but it's been around since a fair bit earlier than that so I doubt it's changed greatly. It's a wonderful spot, I loved it. I was working a flotilla up and down the coast, and Trogir was probably my favourite spot and could've spent more time there for sure. There are some great pizza places on the quayside (not so daft- the area was part of Italy/Roman Emmpire once) and the cafes in the heart of the old walled town are good- great for people watching. More importantly though, there is a beautiful coastline and region nearby- there is of course Split just down the road, and the are ferries out to wonderful islands. Also if you really want to have fun, you can go sailing from the marina oover the bridge, and although I am not sure about Trogir itself, there are places up the coast with diving (Beograd, Kornati). Further up the coast is Sibenik, Primosten and Zadar. Go! (I plan to). Jem.

From another forum post I understand you spent two weeks in Brela few years ago and you liked it. There are certainly more things to do in Trogir than in Brela so I see no problems in staying there for two weeks if you are looking for relaxing holidays. The sea is nice, town is small but beautiful, there are lots of small cafes and nice restaurants in the old town. Plus, there are good connections to Split (and even further to the islands, as already suggested). Nearby Kastela and Solin are also worth some exploring. Daytrips to Krka national park or even Kornati (from Sibenik) is also doable. So, there are lots of things you can do once you get bored lying on the beach for the whole day. As for hotel Medena, it is a bit outside of the old town of Trogir but there are some local buses and there is also a small shuttle van to the center. Still, returning to the hotel late in the evening you will probably need to take a taxi. It is a big hotel and part of it was recently renovated so rooms are OK. The other part (and if I understood correctly the common areas - restaurant, gym etc) is in the need of reconstruction and you might want to check where you will end up taking this deal. There are also some nice small hotels in Trogir center and lots of private accommodation on island of Ciovo (which is just across the bridge from the old town) so I would check them as well. You'll find links at www.trogir-online.com Hope that helps.

I stayed at the Hotel Medena in September 2004, it was OK. The hotal is 4 km from Trogir. You can even walk to Trogir, and I recommend you to do it at least once, because more than half of the way you will be walking along the sea, enjoying a magnificent view. There are some small cafes and restaurants on the way too. Then you'll have to turn left and walk the rest of the way (about 1.5 km) along the highway. There are regular buses from Medena to Trogir, and it's easy to get from Trogir to Split. Food at the hotel is ok, but dull. You better go to other restaurants, outside of the hotel. Practically all rooms of the hotel face the sea, so the view is great. Service is satisfactory, but could be better.
