Life in Tripoli with Family

by hshifan Online Now Dec 18, 2010 at 11:09 AM

I have been offered a job in Tripoli and I am trying to find some information as I will be living in Tripoli with my family wife+baby(9 month). We are a muslim family from Maldives and my wife does not cover her head.

Can anyone get me answers for the following;

- 24/7 stable power available?
- Tap water available at apartments/house are clean and drinkable?
- Is it safe to walk on the roads with wife+baby?
- Are there supermarkets? Can I buy baby foods? "S26 Gold formula milk"
- Are there western products at supermarkets?
- Is there any ATM's with Visa or MasterCard logo and working?
- How fare is Tripoli City to the airport and how much will it cost by taxi
- Are the civilians allowed to own weapons?

    I see that you haven't got any answers.
    I googled Tripoli AND expats and got 105,000 hits.

    Most of them are useless of course, but some are sites that are specific to expats living in Tripoli.

    I think that those sites might be more helpful to you than this one.

    You dont need to cover your head unless its raining, power is avaliable 24/7, the Tap water need to be purified first bottle water is cheap. It is very safe to walk any where with your family. There are stores and supermarkets they have every almost every thing imported from Europe. Baby foods avaliable. Yes AtMS avaliable at hotels and main shopping centers and at banks. Fare to Tripoli from aiport 20 Libyan Dinars. Civilians are not allowed to own weapons. Libya is a peaceful country just take the normal precations as any where else. Cheers
